Can this stock be fixed?

I'm looking for someone with some woodworking chops to tell me if this Fajen laminate can be brought up to code so to speak. My issue is the 1970s flair in the comb shaping. I'd like the right side of the comb shaved (the ridge makes lefty shooting uncomfortable if needed).

And the left side of the comb has no thumb relief to it. Most modern sporter stocks have some symmetry to this area.

Here's an M70 profile if it helps illustrate my point...

If anyone thinks this is a simple fix, or can recommend someone. Please let me know, I wouldn't think it would be too cost prohibitive as there is no finish to be reapplied.

A palm sander with 80 grit for the comb. A little drum sander on a drill for the left side. Lowe’s sells the drum sander kit for about $8. Read my “Do it yourself stockmaking thread” for the how to’s. Take it slow and you’ll be fine.

This would be easy , a steel bastard file for the comb and a half round bastard file for the thumb. Once you remove the material down to the right shape then switch to 80 grit paper and then 100 grit to finish. THEN just use true- oil stock finish applying with a rag around your finger. Easy/smeazy.

That stock is pretty ugly as is and I can't blame you for wanting to do a little reshaping. Be careful though. The buttplate probably will have too much drop in it after you take the rollover off the cheekpiece and shape it like a classic. You could probably use iron sights fine but you might have to stretch your neck some to get your eye up to the level of a scope. You can get some decent aftermarket stocks for replacement (like Boyds) so I'd look hard at those.

I'm not talking taking the comb down, just the sharp ridge on the right side of it.
OK, you can do that. You'll need to do a little reshaping on top to keep from getting a "sharp" comb, but a couple of rasps from the hardware store will be all you need to do what you want. Proceed slowly and try often to get the feel you're looking for.

Easy to do if, as suggested earlier, you take your time and watch the lines of your blending of shapes carefully. I've done it with a couple of "roll-over" stocks and no one would know but what they started life that way.
