Important Update for Our California Customers

Hi everyone,

New Cali-Law posted by one of my parts vendors.

We want to share a clear update with our California customers about new state requirements that will affect what we are allowed to ship to you.

These changes are the result of new California regulations, not a decision we made lightly. Our goal is to make sure you have clear, accurate information so there are no surprises when placing future orders.

Because the new requirements take effect on January 1, many companies, including us, will stop shipping certain items to California after December 20 to allow time for orders to be processed and delivered before the law goes into effect.

What this means for you

Beginning January 1, California law will prohibit us from shipping certain parts and accessories into the state. This applies to both direct-to-consumer orders and shipments to unlicensed dealers.

Restricted items include:

• Barrels
• Upper receivers
• Conversion kits
• Triggers
• Magazines
• Magazine funnels
• Speedloaders
• Parts kits
• Tools

• Any item California may view as an assault weapon component. This includes pistol grips, thumbhole stocks, folding or telescoping stocks, vertical foregrips, flash suppressors, and pistol barrel shrouds.

Bull Shit this is not all law! Don’t believe everything people post. Look up California SB 704 this does not go into effect until July of 27’ and as far as barrels go the best we can tell is it’s only parts that can readily assembled. So barrel blanks don’t apply. The best thing the OP could do is delete this until it gets sorted out and again even if doesn’t it won’t go into effect until July of 27’! If there are any other laws going into effect you need to be very specific so people don’t assume it’s all barrels and parts!

This is not a correct interpretation of the law, this law AB 1263 requires proof of identity and age before shipping and upon receiving certain items. The law requiring barrel transfers through an FFL starts in July 2027. Do a little research.
This law, like all California gun laws suck but it is not a ban on sales.
Another way to punish law abiding citizens whose views, culture and desires to exercise our constitutional rights this state leadership hates.

It will likely get overturned anyway
DOJ likes to make stuff up as they go along until they get told
"You cant do that"

AB1263, the “online parts ban,” takes effect on January 1, 2026.
Sig sent me a notification as a past customer that barrels and slides won't be shipped to California after the end of 2025. This is going to impact me as a benchrest shooter when I need a new barrel. If it extends to triggers, even more so. Living in the peoples republic of Kalifornika just keeps getting worse.

There are two bills which create new restrictions. One goes into effect on 1/1/2026, while the other takes effect on 7/1/2027.

Yes barrels will have to go to FFLs.

Here is a summary:

AI Overview
California Assembly Bill 1263 (AB 1263) and Senate Bill 704 (SB 704), which regulate the sale and transfer of firearm barrels and other parts, are effective on January 1, 2026, with the most stringent barrel-specific rules taking effect on July 1, 2027.

Key Provisions and Effective Dates
The laws impose new requirements on the sale and delivery of standalone firearm barrels and other "firearm accessories" to California residents:

Effective January 1, 2026
Age and Identity Verification: All sales require the purchaser to provide government-issued photo identification to verify they are at least 18 years old.
Purchaser Acknowledgment: Buyers must sign a form acknowledging that they understand the legal restrictions and illegal uses of the purchased items.
Shipping Restrictions: Online retailers must use specific shipping protocols for direct-to-consumer sales (where still permitted). The delivery address must match the ID address, and an adult signature is required upon delivery.
Barrels Must Go to FFL: Direct-to-consumer shipment of standalone barrels to a home address becomes unlawful. Instead, they must be shipped to a California-licensed Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) for pickup.
Digital Files: The law prohibits the distribution of digital manufacturing code (CAD, CNC, 3D printer files) that can be used to produce firearms or restricted parts, and hosts/distributors of such files can face civil penalties.

Effective July 1, 2027
Mandatory Background Checks: A second, stronger layer of regulation for barrels takes effect. In addition to picking up the barrel at an FFL, the buyer will be required to undergo a California Department of Justice (DOJ) eligibility check and background check, similar to purchasing a complete firearm. The dealer must also record and report purchaser and barrel details to the DOJ.
Many online retailers may stop shipping restricted items to California due to the increased compliance burden and liability risks associated with these new laws.

Being someone who moved to Texas to escape high taxes, “assault weapons bans” and woke politics, I find it hard to understand why other folks don’t move. Yes, it’s hard and disruptive, but I found it to be worth the effort. A lot of left leaning Californios move here just to escape the high cost of living. I wish we could get more right leaning pro gun folks here before our diluted population turns this state blue!
Some folks admonished me for not standing my ground and fighting in Delaware. An honest assessment told me that Delaware was a lost cause. I think California is the same. Texas is my Alamo. We need more men on the wall! Come join us!

Unfortunately, most venders don't want what they see as jumping through legal hoops to sell to the peoples republik, so they just avoid it all together. As for the laws being overturned by judicial decree, the DOJ just files continuances and stays and the courts allow them to delay filing for an excessive period of time so any decision is progressively delayed. Will some be overturned? Possibly. But with the lower courts stacked with liberal justices it will be a long tedious process.

Important Update for Our California Customers

Hi everyone,

I believe that message was sent by 80% Arms, was it not? That particular company wasn't exactly doing a landslide business in California prior to this, due to the ghost gun laws already in place.

But yeah; going to be kind of rough for us bottom-left coasters figuring out how to navigate things to support one's hobby/obsession after the 1st. Not really looking forward to that.
