Calibers for any/any sling rifles?

6XC works fine. 6.5x284 has been very common for years and has about the same recoil as the 308 Palma loads. Anything more than 150 grains at 3000 fps is too much for a days shooting. It is not just the 20 record shots, but 3 or 4 strings of them plus sighters.

I would also add the type of rifle you have will possibly limit your choices. If it is a short action 308 bolt face I would go 6XC. 6.5x284 really needs a long action.

I like the dasher. 3000 FPS, easy to tune easy to shoot. I’ve tried bigger stuff like 284 shehane but it was harder to shoot well over a whole match.

My "A" rifles are a 6SLR @ 600 shooting a 110 SMK at 3,120 and a 284 Shehane shooting a 183 SMK at 2,930 fps for 1K.
My backup rifles are a BRX for 600 and a 6.5 GWI for 1K. All are tolerable recoil wise over multiple 20 shot strings, but obviously the BRX is the lightest kicker of the bunch, but it also gives up more ground on windy days. As has been said multiple times, there is no free lunch.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

I went through the same struggle. I ended up going 243 because I already had the dies and brass. I didnt really gain much going with a different 6mm. Any difference I would gain wasn't enough to justify the cost of buying new dies and brass.

When I shot high power sling prone, I kept the rifle tight in the shoulder for the entire string like small bore prone. A light recoiling cartridge won’t loosen up your position over a long string like a heavy recoiling one will do. Keeping that in mind, my favorite was the 6.5/.284.

I built my Any-Any from a 6.5 Creedmoor. I looked at a hot 6mm, and the 284. 7-08 crossed my mind but at the end of the day ( months years), the 6.5 CM offered:
Factory ammo ( whip de do)
Lots of brass manufacturers
140 berger at 2900 fps.
Lower recoil than my palma
Wayyy better wind drift
Ok barrel life~ 2500 I guess. I’m at 2000 now

it all cane down to recoil vs performance vs barrel life. The Creedmoor gave me what I wanted.

Talking about sling rifles , a well know 1000 yds highpower champion told me that the top any any rifles ( D Tubbs, John Whidden..etc)
provides same accuracy (elevation) versus F class rifles?
