Cabela’s 700 Varmint Sale

https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/remington-model-700-adl-varmint-bolt-action-rifle?searchTerm=Remington 700adl varmint
This might be a good deal if you know someone who needs a starter barreled action for long range.
I bought one of those in 223 a couple of years ago. Put it in a good stock and topped it off with a Nightforce NXS 8-32 and it shoots pretty well. Took it to SD prairie dog hunting and it did well. Two things wrong was the bolt needed bushed (firing pin) to solve the primer cratering and the primary extraction was non existent. Don't have a lot of money in it. I wanted to try a Trigger Tech trigger, so I put the cheapest one in. I much prefer a Jewell. Maybe the more expensive Trigger Tech has a better feel to it? I'm sure a bone stock Tikka would out perform it, but I'm used to the 700's and too old to change.

Probably not. More than likely they have a overstock of ADL's in 22-250 that were not selling like other calibers and are selling them off. Plus the ADL series usually does not sell for as much as other models in the first place. Just my thought.

Bill, the sale does also includes .223 Rem,.308, and 6.5 Creedmoor.

That is a great deal . That price is lower than dealer cost from folks like Davidsons , and they are sold out at this time.

Could that stock be made into a decent item? It appears to have a fairly wide forearm.
Jackie, the one we took apart some time back and it was a good shaped stock. It was just a typical plastic stock that the barrel channel with the honeycomb open spaces deal that could be filled with bedding, I guess.
That’s the great deal on these 700 stocks from places like McMillan with their Mc3 and Grayboe from Red Hawk rifles. These cheaper stocks are already pillar bedded and ready to accept the 700’s.

I've spent some fun shop time dinking with tupperware freeby stocks. Have learned a bunch.

Here's a shot of the innards of the ADL varmint 700. This fixture goes from Bridgeport to DP and is useful for several ops. In this instance the barrel channel is getting ready to be opened up.

The "problem" with these stocks; Remington did an OK job of stiffening the forearm, and can explain how..... BUT,that's where their efforts stopped. Meaning, they mated a stiff forearm to the STILL rubbery action area. And did nothing on the buttstock. So in some ways good, don't need to do too much in the forward part but, exacerbated the flex at the action.

Bass Pro and Cabelas.......two places I avoid. I will happily pay more at my LGS

But that is a nice price they offer
Loyalty to the LGS is fine ,but when your LGS is going to pay $ 170 more than Cabela's is selling it for it's hard for me to be that loyal ...and my Son owns the LGS .

Have you came up with a fix for the flex in the action area? Thanks!

And the 22-250 is the one to get if you want to shoot cast bullets. This rig will shoot 1/2" all day long if I do my part...... bwScreenshot_20201023-080735_Gallery.jpgahaha.

Seriously, cast is a rabbit hole.... don't do it. We go after the hole with a Case backhoe but,the 22-250 with a 14T is durn fun. This was a cpl days ago.

Alright McGraw but you didn't hear it from me.....

First off,you gotta get the adhesive situation covered. Big difference dumping/pouring resin in those forearm cavities, and actually sticking two pieces of this chit together. So there's issue one. Once there,it's a simple matter to then start "building" reinforcement to the action area.

Not significantly different from how Rem goes after their forearms. The reason the sporter forearms still twist even after filling is,partially adhesion but also the narrow cross section.... solved by "trapping"(trapezoid shape) the forearm shape on the varmint model. So just look at the action as a 1st year college engineering test. Remember, the stock is free.... like popcycle stick free.

Need to decide if you want a single shot or repeater..... I'd go SS on the first and work on adhesion. Use,EA 40 smooth-on epoxy and wave a propane torch on the glue area prior to glue up. The torch gives you a glue up window of about 30-45 minutes. Some chemistry there that gets a little stoic.... just do it and don't think too much on it.

A pencil type soldering iron makes a dandy tool for "spotting" any areas that can benefit from raised, pimples for mechanical adhesive grip.

Cabela's does this sale regularly. A few years ago I bought a 223, I had points from my credit card, gift cards from Christmas, got it free and had a $50 mail in rebate!
I use it for hunt jackrabbits, standing offhand. Has considered cutting 4-6” off the barrel to make lighter.

Cabela's & BPS have the same sales/prices since they are one in the same. They also have the Savage FV 12 for the same price, buy a Boyd's stock, a loading sled from SSS and go shoot.
