Heads up on Cabela's 700 ADL sale. After rebates, 324.99 small and large bolt face calibers. Good deal if one is looking to use just the action. On a good day you might get 100 for the remaining parts.

I talked my buddy....who has his FFL and buys wholesale.....into buying a Rem to build off of. He paid $225.00 for a 700 308 Win...not sure which one. I'm not talking an action...I'm talking the whole shebang!!

:):):)I still have one in the box from last year when you gave me a "heads up" The problem with a Cabela's gun sale is checking out. 5 minutes to pick out the gun then 2 hours to get out the door!

My buddy went to the store in Christiana today to buy one. Took a number, waited a half hour while a couple of tire kickers tied up the only two counter persons. Walked out. One needs an extraordinary amount of patience to deal with their firearm purchasing protocol.

Mirrors my experience. I'll pay a bit more to avoid driving 2 hours one way and trying to deal with this kind of aggravation.

I like to buy on-line and have it sent to my local FFL.

No muss.

No fuss.

No bother.

YMMV.

This.... There's 4 counter jockeys at mine and you still take a number and wait because it takes 2 per customer... It's annoying..

I just bought a gun at Cabela's 3 weeks ago. In and out in 30 minutes. That included the 5 minutes wait till one of the gun salesman was available.

I don't think I'll be buying any more stuff from WalMart than I have to anymore.

Poor selection, poor customer service, gotta scan your own stuff, folks workin' there act like helping you is the biggest inconvenience they've had to suffer all day . . . etc, etc, .....

Buy a gun in there and they march you out to the front door like you got caught pleasuring yourself in the bathroom or somethin' ... and who is keeping track of what I'm shooting ammunition in? A 45-70 pistol? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR DOGGONE MIND ???

I'll just let Amazon drop that stuff in my driveway and WalMart can keep wonderin' why they're loosing market share.

was just my little joke-- i dont buy much from wally and the stuff you say about them can sure be true. but if i want to buy a gun in there i can get someone usually right away and get the process going. much quicker IMO than cabelas normally-- also cabelas, rural king and others escourt you out. only place ive been in for awhile that doesnt is my LGS

Hey, whatever works for you is fine by me. When I decide to buy a firearm, I know what I want and am not interested in anything else. Ergo, ordering on-line and having it sent to my local FFL is just no muss, no fuss and no bother for me.

And I realize not every solution works best for every situation.

Have a nice night.

Could a guy bypass some of the BS by going on line and pre-paying or putting a hold on a rifle?? Never bought a gun from one of these places so I'm clueless. jd

I've bought a few from Bud's Guns and had them shipped to my FFL with no trouble so long as I knew what I wanted. Tried doing something similar with Cabela's last year and cancelled my order after 2 months of 'backorder' and no indication of when I could expect delivery.

Not sure if that helps you or not. Good luck in your quest.

Years ago before the Eight Year Age of Enlightenment, I bought a few shotguns at Wal-Mart. They had a catalog at the sporting goods register you could order from, even had CZs and a few other upper end brands. You put in your order there, paid half and within a week or so, you'd get a call for pickup. Go in, pay the balance at the layaway desk, walk to the sporting goods where a manager would escort you out the door (as per corporate legal department) and you were on your way. Today that store uses the same process except for the catalog. Only regularly stocked items are available for purchase. Having said all that, the purchase ease at big box stores depends on the location and whether the employees give a crap or not. Last summer we were in the Walmart in Lubbock and due to computer problems, had an issue with obtaining a non resident hunting license, Those employees spent a good amount of time and effort to get us our licenses. Up here in the northeast corridor, it would have been "the computer's down, sorry".
