Buying reconditioned FX-120i scale...ok idea?

So I plan to jump right into the deep end on buying a scale, but have found a reconditioned unit for less cost.

I have emailed Adam at AT twice and rather than wait on his response, have decided to ask here.

Are there any reasons why I should not buy a reconditioned unit? Programming issues? Hardware considerations? Compatibility with the V4 auto trickler? Something else I haven't considered?

Thanks for any help.

don’t buy it
if there ever is a problem Adam can and most likely WILL OR,SHALL deny any coverage as he has an out
and for the record it might be a very good reason to deny helping to solve problems

biy new for this venture or don’t buy either

easy,peasy

and don’t buy a used 1st model v3 either

it is not that this is too important but it is

sace yiur money until you can get warranty and enjoy the sport even more

to fight or argue over fixing a problem SHOILD IT ARISE will never be as good as merely complaining about the wind

If the manufacturer is the one who reconditioned it and the cost savings was significant enough, I'd get one.

I'd also ask about the warranty.
Not sure about who did the reconditioning, but I just sent an inquiry to find out.

I do know they come with a 2-year warranty.

Good point about dealing with a potential V4 issue and how that might get handled. If Matt gets back to me I'll be sure to ask about that.

Should add that they do come with a 2-year warranty.

where did you find this "reconditioned" scale at?

Well… 2 emails to ‘Adam’…no response
You can ask here by all means… someone here does their warranty decisions?
I don’t see you ‘jumping in to the deep end’. Rather someone looking for a deal guaranteed by the manufacturer. Almost a unicorn hunt.

Wait for Adam to respond before purchasing.
Yeah. That wait business should be kept in mind.
How about the wait for a repair?
Personally if I felt that scale is what you absolutely need/want I would buy it new.

You have a good point, a reconditioned object just tells me there was already a problem that someone moved on from.

I talked to Adam at auto trickler via email today and got great feedback about these units. He put my mind at ease about buying one, so I did buy one. Ended up being $415 to my door but after thinking about how long I'll end up owning it and the real difference in price, I called back and cancelled the order. Going to buy new since the difference is only around $150. Over time isn't much at all. BTW, this isn't some back room seller, they are a retailer for the scales, like CE Products, and used to be a distributor for auto trickler, I think.

Thanks for all the suggestions, and if that $150 would've made the difference between buying/not buying...I'd have bought. The impression I got from Adam was that the scales are pretty robust, and sometimes people think their scale is defective and end up sending it back. These are probably what constitutes being "reconditioned". Considering they offer a 2-year warranty, I'd say they are confident in those units.

Part of the price of high-end analytic equipment like a balance is the product has to be designed and manufactured so that it can be sent in and worked on, and/or calibrated (by appropriate people), in order to be usable for outfits that have to meet metrology standards.

Which means that used equipment, from reputable sources, is usually just as good as new.

I bought a used scale.. just for my ST..
Couldn’t get scale to work or power up..

Called A&D tech-
Since the scale has a 5yr warranty on them, I got the usb bus board shipped to me, rather than sending the scale back, pin #9 didn’t have power on it..

I have never seen a 1970's Ohaus M5 that needs to be 're-conditioned' or sent back. Mine is still accurate to 2/10th grain = more than you need. And same since new with a few tweaks. hah. And it works as soon as I set it up and check weigh( 2 minutes). I average 25 seconds each charge with a lee plastic thrower and a tricker. KISS
