Leveling the A&D FX-120i

Thanks for the input, everyone. As always this forum never disappoints. I'm going to leave it as-is and when the V4 gets here, I'll see how it goes. My OCD will just have to get over looking at the built in bubble being way off :p

You can check your level by putting it on a reasonably level surface, noting the bubble location, then turn the level 180 degrees and check if the bubble is in the same location.

I suggest you take off that platen and level across the center of the scale.

The bubble on the A&D is very sensitive, for what it's worth I get mine as close as possible and call it good. Never have had a problem with my V-3 unit. Oh, and as a side note, thanks for piquing my curiosity, checked my bubble with another level on the Platen and they agreed, I'm either very lucky or very good. ;) Bubble level on my A&D will move ever so slightly from day to day, used to worry about that, no more, scale works so good I rarely even check it anymore. Enjoy your V-4 they are great tools.

Thank you, I ordered it yesterday and anxiously waiting for it. I've used the Dandy trickler for so long and I can't wait to put that up on the shelf. The V4 will speed things up for sure. I enjoy reloading, but doing large batches can sometimes be a chore.

Doubly true when loading for 1000yd. matches where, to the kernel weights are very important.

Is that a new scale? The plastic part surrounding the platten looks very different from the one on my unit.

Yes, It's new. I've had it for a couple days...ordered from CE Products.
The bubble on the level and on the scale seem to be different by quite a bit. You can check your hand held level by placing it on a flat surface and rotate the leve end for end and see if the bubble remains in the same relative same place. If it starts in the center it will will remain there and if one end shows high, it will show high an equal amount when rotated, but at the opposite end. Also, check to see the level is perfectly straight and not convex or concave.

Thanks, I have checked the handheld level, it's good. The scale is working well so I'm not going to sweat it. I'll see how it does when the V4 gets here.

Here are my initial thoughts on the FX-120i after 100 rounds...

- It's consistent and I've had no issues whatsoever with zero drift, which is rare in my experience. Even good magnetic force balances tend to drift every so often. So far, it hasn't drifted at all.

- It appears to be accurate. At least, accurate enough. Comparing it to my other scale, also magnetic force, the FX-120i reads 0.005 to 0.007 grains heavier than my other scale (See pic). With that said, my other scale reads to 0.000 and the FX-120i reads to the 0.00 and my other scale is accurate to 0.0015, which gives it an advantage in getting an exact weight. I'm not sure what the advertised accuracy of the FX-120i is. The 0.007 grain difference will have pretty much zero affect on target, so I'm not worried about it at all.

- It stabilizes quickly, quicker than my other scale.

- It seems to read in 0.02 grain increments. I'm not sure if this is configurable or not. I'm not crazy about the 0.02 grain increments, but it's not a big deal...again, results on target difference between 45.21 and 45.22 is negligible.

- I wish it had a sliding door for the draft shield rather than needing to move the top and lift out a panel. But this is nitpicking.

- At the end of the day, my favorite part of the FX-120i is the ability to pair it with Auto tricklers, and the reason I got it.

So far I'm very pleased with it.

Question for everyone that has one of these scales. Do you leave the clear plastic body cover on as in the pic, or take it off? I discarded mine.

You might want to look at the clear unit and adjustment screw made by member @JustDreaming.
You are able to keep the scale level and then tilt the V4 unit with adjustment screw considerably to achieve that perfect flow rate.
High quality unit with doors. Worth the upgrade in my opinion.

Nice addition, if I had the V-4, I would certainly consider it.

I just got the A&D FX-120i because I'm planning on adding either an Auto trickler V4 or the new Ingenuity Precision dumper/trickler coming out soon to my arsenal.

I've read that the scale really needs to be level for the V4 to work properly. I leveled it by getting the bullseye bubble in the middle as stated in the directions and it looked off to me. So I put another level on it and adjusted the feet until it was level. As you can see from the pic, the built in bullseye bubble is way off when the level I put across the platen shows level. My level shows good side to side and front to back and I tend to believe it over the on built in bubble.

For those who own this scale, is it typical for this built in bubble to be off? Which would you trust, the external level or the built in bubble?

You can Google many articles on bubble levels. Some are listed for as much as $80.

How do I know if my level is accurate? Rotate the entire scale?
Look at the vial and take a reading of the bubble's position. Rotate the level 180° side-to-side and align the level with your marks. Take a second reading. If the level is accurate, the bubble will be in the same position for both readings.

Oh man...that's sweet. Definitely want this, it looks to be much improved compared to the standard draft shield.
