Butches bore shine

Bought a used rifle. Used Butche’s to run patches through bore . 3 patched came out black- then 5 patches came out with bright blue (copper ) then after a few more patches they came out clean. What would be next step to assure bore was clean? Rifle is a Remington .308 .

l would bore scope it especially looking in throat area. then no matter what it looked like id 1 patch with butches and 10 or 20 strokes with a bronze brush then a few patches with butches to clean all the gook the brush has loosened. then 10 strokes or so with some jb on a patch/jag then butches/patches and look again. i dont always clean this way but on a used gun i just got chances are good they havent been cleaned to well if at all and i wanna see how much i can get out.

After wetting the bore with Butch's, push a bronze brush through the bore in one direction, breach to muzzle. Do 10 passes removing the brush after it exits the muzzle. Then run a dry patch through. If the dry patch has any darker color then keep working at it.

Did you allow the Butch’s to soak or did you just push patches? I usually push a few wet patches and then let it soak for about 15-20 min, then I run a bronze bore brush down 10 times and then a dry patch and then another few wet and let it soak again for 15 min or so. Then some dry patches and should be clean. If not then do it again.

After getting a Hawkeye years ago, I realized my regimine using Butches was leaving layers of carbon and copper behind. Started using many more strokes with a bronze brush and problem solved. Butches works, but have moved on years ago. Got tired of changing brushes all the time.
