Bullet sorting tool?

I wonder if one would have to clean up the tips on a bullet to get accurate results with this. I’m not understanding how it’s getting the bto when it’s showing the fella measuring the oal of the bullet.

I have spoke to Bob on his comparitor and it is measuring the ogive but the difference is that his more closely matches the lands. Here is a great read on this comparitor from one of his customers. I would also take a moment and talk with Bob. A great guy to talk to.

he obviously has no clue. measuring to the tips does nothing positive.

So you don't sort by oal before you trim? How do you know what to trim to?

Read the guy's description. It measures ogive with a comparator, too. He just thought we were smart enough to read and understand that. Looks like he was wrong.

It is a software package/app to capture and sort measurements from the outout of an electronic caliper that has said output.

So you get the caliper to,now that makes sense..I think my simple mind would still run everything thru the giraud trimmer first.

I don't know if you get the caliper or not. You would need to ask the seller.

I believe you do,I actually read the instructions a little bit this time before trying to put it together by just looking at the picture on the box.. it says you get everything but the phone..if I run into some extra money might have to try it out also.

i don't need some electronic gadget to sort bullets. sort by weight, sort by base to ogive and some i point with whidden tool. have a meplate trimmer i use on berger hunting bullets. think just pointing without meplate trimming works better for me.

I length sort, weight sort and then use the Mark King (Was Buehy I believe and now Accuracy One) comparator to sort by bearing surface.

Rock on. But maybe don't assume that is what everyone does? Maybe consider editing your no clue remark?

By all means, get your tips and meplates the way you want them, electronic gadgets or not.

no clue remark was measuring bullets to the tip. we all know how much the meplate varies and to me it just doesn't matter what that length is.

I'm going to 'borrow' a picture of the OAL spread on some 200 Hybrid bullets a friend posted elsewhere (my results this past year were very, very similar)...

...do you *really* think those bullets are all going to fly the same, if they aren't sorted by OAL? More to the point of your post, do you *really* think they're going to all point-up the same? My experience is a resounding 'no'.

Monte, is your friend just sorting by OAL or does he sort base to ogive and then OAL ?

I just sort by OAL, at this point in time. Never found enough variation worth worrying about in the BTO. The other guy... I believe he sorts by either BTO or bearing surface also. Supposedly he found a 185 Hybrid mixed in with his 200s, so I guess that made it worth it for him ;)

My results sorting 200.20Xs by OAL...

...and FWIW I believe I read that the AMU does something similar as a time-effective way of binning by BC.

Tracking...these are my thoughts also why sort, point, and not clean up the tip..I know a lot of people say don’t worry about it,it doesn’t matter but I kind of believe it does..but at the end of the day the 20x fly’s pretty darn good right out of the box.
