i love a bed time story.. would you read it to us Please! For more info on sorting by OAL, see Modern Advancements in Long Range Shooting vol II, chapter 3 'Bullet Trimming and Pointing', specifically pg 84-85 (sorting by OAL before pointing operations) and pg 112 (sorting by OAL in lieu of pointing).
Exactly what I do (and believe you must do) if your pointing without trimming or just shooting straight out of the box.My results sorting 200.20Xs by OAL...

...and FWIW I believe I read that the AMU does something similar as a time-effective way of binning by BC.
I need to say something that a lot of people won’t like. Sort your bullets any way you want, over all length is really great (proven).
But tipping and very tight neck tension is extremely critical how it’s done.
You will deform the bullet very easily at the lead line. I have done a lot of testing in this area. I would do this with great caution.
Have a great Christmas.
This seems to be the only one that actually only measures pure bearing surface.http://accuracyone.com/products/bullettipping/
Scroll to the bottom. I put a one tenth indicator on mine, and a flat for just doing base to ogive. The Bob Green is also a valuable tool. Or just buy vapor trail bullets lol.

Not sure exactly what you are having trouble with but the price is listed at the very bottom of the ad (retail $180). And they also have a number you can call to check on availability:This seems to be the only one that actually only measures pure bearing surface.
I can't get a response on price and availability.
I emailed them, was told the cost was $1800 with a two week lead time,Not sure exactly what you are having trouble with but the price is listed at the very bottom of the ad (retail $180). And they also have a number you can call to check on availability:

I have never sorted bullets before, but on my last match, I had all my rounds loaded. (.308 with 185 Juggernauts and 43.5gr Varget). So I check them all and sorted based on Shell base to Ogive and then produced the three sets I would need for the match. I do believe it provided me with better consistency.
On my next load, I will try sorting by measuring Tail to Ogive and see what I get, or does someone have other recommendations.
What's the most important, bullet bearing surface uniformity, or uniform jump? Barlow
only 3 things can effect base to ogive length on a seated round
a worn press .
