Bullet & Barrel makers in collusion...?

When you see these new bullets winning a long range BR or f-class thats when I would consider re barreling. Its still the old 105s 210s and 180s for the most part. I was real excited for the 195 hybrid but have gotten back too many reports of it failing on game, back to 180s in the 7mm and 215s in the 30.
Alex I got one question on these bullet makers going to the extreme why why why a lot of why

Collusion? I don't think so. When a bullet maker spends all the $$ it takes to design, develop and market a bullet (say for example the 150SMK in 6.5 cal) they need to sell them to recoup/profit from their effort. That becomes really difficult when selling bullets is dependent on barrels that are not the normal twists. If it were collusion don't you think the barrel makers would have had barrels ready to sell when the bullets hit the market?

No Collusion - They know we are going to buy it (Bullet Makers). - Maybe not all of us, but they don't need to sell it to all of us. - The barrel makers are here to provide products & services to the market & the bullet makers widen the spectrum of what gets produced through that need.

Stan, I am glad they are. If we can get the best BC AND accuracy that will be great. So far there seems to be a limit on how long the bullet can get and still shoot well enough to win matches.
Thanks I won't get into it but when a manufacturer is ask to make changes in tooling to make this happen it has to be profitable to the barrel maker as well as the bullet maker also in the past I haven't seen this much interest if it works out for both that's a good thing.

I've noticed for the last couple years that many shooters only care about the highest BC they can find. I shake my head when someone asks what bullet to use for deer hunting and there are 25 answers suggesting using the heaviest match bullets on the market.

But I wonder about the gun manufacturers too. I keep seeing bullets of 105 gr to 115 gr for the 6mm. I don't think Winchester or Remington have changed the twist on what they sell and wonder if they ever will, seems they offer 9.5 or 10. Most of my new guns will never see heavy for caliber bullets because they don't have the twist to shoot them. Seems like only a few sell rifles with a fast twist.

I held off buying an AR because it seemed like every year a heavier bullet was coming out that needed a faster twist then what was being sold. One of the reasons I bought a Colt was they standardized on 1:7 and everyone else was 1:8 or 1:9. Thank god the 5.56 mm has stabilized.

The after market barrels do support the heavy bullets but I refuse to buy a rifle new and rebarrel.

Sometimes I wonder where the firearms market is going. There is way to much change taking place.

I love the whole long range deal. It makes for more research, more shooters, more interest, more good old American ingenuity and more importantly MORE JOBS for barrel, rifle, accessories, scopes, components, stocks, triggers, etc., etc. manufacturers, vendors, gunsmiths, LGS and even the big box stores. JOBS, JOBS and more JOBS! AMERICAN JOBS! What's not to like?

Edit: Look at this website. Just a few short years back, there were 20,000 members. Now we're pushing 40,000 and a lot of them are new shooters seeking advice and knowledge on medium and long range.

My 30 cal. bullets are a little long for my magazine.
