Bullet & Barrel makers in collusion...?

every years it seems, we get new, higher BC bullets in the popular calibers. Wonderful.
But those latest iteration super bullets all seem to require a new faster twist $750 barrel (by time it is chambered and fit to your rifle) to make use of them. And, of course, the barrel makers are all back ordered six to ten months on the new twist.

Is this some sort of sinister conspiracy to keep me broke?

yes,

sometimes refered to as progress.

The bullet consumer has been conditioned to focus on high bc bullets as the be all end all to the exclusion of all else. So the bullet manufacturers are producing high BC bullets and these require faster twist barrels.

Unfortunately, because a lot of these bullets are pushing the envelope for the design and do not always work out. This is causing a lot of issues that most shooters do not understand as a bullet design issue.

My thought's...the shooting public in general has gone more the direction of "LONG RANGE", and thus come to realize usefullness of the fast twist , high BC bullet. And since this has become more main stream, there is always the guys pushing the envelope with the need / want for faster and faster twists with heavier and heavier bullets. It's a vicious...AND EXPENSIVE...cycle!!:D;)

Caught in the middle,
Tod

+2 for Yes...

It's just "supply and demand",been going on forever in this sport . Most shooters are never fully satisfied and the challenge/frustration of becoming a great shooter will eat them up...so the makers and builders supply it and folks demand to buy it,no matter how long they have to wait . I like to reinvent the wheel way too much on my own so I am usually beyond the latest/greatest before it turns into a fad. The technology of today is amazing and has it's place ,but folks spending money foolishly turns some of the tech into trickery...Sucker born everyday scenario.

Yup! It's the Russians! They're pushing everybody into long range so when they hit us with "close quarters combat tactics", we're not ready.

.....or "market demand". Me, I'm limited to 600 yards so I'll watch progress pass me by.

They aren't backed-up on the twist rates, and will cut virtually any twist rate you order. They are backed-up producing the barrels in different calibers. They have set-up and break down time on each and every caliber they are producing at the time. They are simply swamped with orders, and quality takes time.

HEY! Those Russian 40 caliber rifles are nothing to turn your nose up at! Americans are behind the 8 Ball in this respect.

Progress, maybe ? it's more meeting the perceived notion that bigger & faster will compensate for bad shooting skills , ie; trying to buy better scores / win at any cost. And, rest assured that
Joe Binotz , or Sam Schumtzella will spend $$$$$ on a rifle system and then ask for loading data , BUT, will not accept any info from any shooter, requiring that load data be in print.
Sometimes I think there should be an aptitude test given to anyone buying any custom firearm **, and the bullet manufactures be required to have loading data available for any new super doper bullet they offer.
** stupid is as stupid does"

The whole “long range” thing is completely out of control. Look at how many posts ask about medium range hunting suggestions...medium range being 600 yards.
