Building Target Stands

I had a nice A-frame style sign holder that made an awesome target frame, but a tree fell in my yard and crushed it flat. Since then I’ve been using election signs, but they wiggle in the wind pretty bad.

Edit to add that the frame I had was something like the one in this link. I might just order another one.

Like already mentioned, for paper targets, furring strips with paper or plastic (holds up better) corrugate. Screw four eyelets into the sides. Get a couple steel rods used to tie chain link fence to fence posts and grind a point on one end. You can make any size frame you want to cover any distance or fit into any vehicle. Just drop the rods through the eyelets and hammer in. Holds up to wind very well. When the corrugate is shot up, peel and replace. If you shoot a frame, (never an issue for me ) pull the section and replace. This set up meets any paper target requirements I’ve had for 40 years with minimal investment. Way more portable than PVC IMO.

The best one I have seen was made by my buddy. It is made from 2"x2"x14 ga(?) steel tube, welded in an H pattern that lays on the ground. The cross piece has a hinge in the middle and also has the top of the cross piece cut away in two places to allow 2x2 lumber to drop in. The lumber is held by cap screws with the nuts welded in place. I'm hoping to have him make one for me!

Made with scrap wood. Stands 6’. The white squares are empty Winchester primer packets. Camouflaged so neighbors are less likely to see it, plus to seal/waterproof the wood.
