Building a magazine fed 6.5 - 284

I want to build a 6.5-284 on a Rem 700. I want it to feed from the magazine. I want to shoot 140gr Bergers. Do i need to go with a long action? Or can i seet the bullets deep into the case and use a short action? I need some advice please. Also...If i go with the long action and seet the bullets way out will it feed properly?

YEAH you need a long action.

Why don't you look for a Tikka M 695 long action? You get a decent mag and the action is slick as hell and no problems as its a single stack magazine.

I hear the 6.5x.284 can be hard to feed from double stacks.

I am going to taking my M 695 stainless action from the 06 and having a 6.5x55 barrel thrown on and setting in the Tikka MS stock.

Then take the blued MS action and use it for hunting.

RHINOUT!

I have one built on M700 long action. I'm shooting 140 Berger VLD's. I'm able to seat these bullets out enough to touch the rifling, yet use the magazine. I'm using a 26 inch Broughton,1x8 twist) barrel. This is the rifle I'm taking Pronghorn hunting at the end of October. This gun is a shooter! H4350, H4831sc and even RL25 shoot extremely well
