6.5-06 VLDs OAL

I was curious if a 6.5-06 using the longest VLDs available properly seated are too long to feed in a Rem 700 BDL magazine?

I guess I will reply to my own post.

I am guessing that 140 gr vld's will be too long unless seated a little bit deep. If this was the case I was going to try and figure out how much too long this casing was. After that I would try and see if there was any wildcats that already exist that would allow 140gr vlds out of a long action Rem 700 BDL magazine and still be able to feed as well as the 30-06. If there was not a wildcat that would do this then I think it should be created. If 140s will run fine in the 6.5-06 then there is no need for all of this trouble.

Anyone know the answer to this?

I'm not sure how to answer that one... I've owned a 700 BDL action formerly used on a .300 Win Mag, that would allow very long cartridges,like the .375 H&H or the 8mm Rem Mag) to feed flawlessly. Your 6.5-06 is a shorter cartridge, even after a throating job that would allow the ideal seating depth for a VLD bullet.And by all means it wouldn't become a wildcat, just a specific chambering.

I have a 6.5 06 on a m70 that was a300wm had to change mag folower,shorten bolt stop & remove mag spacer to feed long vld bullets Im not sure what mod if any to a m700 bdl but the 300wm sami length isnt much longer than a30 06

It is no problem, I have a mod. 700 long action chambered in 6.5-06 I shoot 142 sierras with the base of the bullet in the sweet spot of the case

I would like to get an explanation on why a 6.5 06 will shoot nearly 100fps faster than a 6.5 rem mag all things being equal, barrel length powders & primers ect.
