OK, after looking through a few sites and doing a little research I'm now wondering about just building a gun off of my current Savage 16 .243 that I have. What I was thinking about doing was getting a 28"-30" barrel for it, possibly a Shilen replacement barrel they offer for Savages and also getting a new stock more suitable for competitive shooting and of course a new scope that would be good for 300-600 yard shooting and maybe some kind of trigger work. I could always put the stock sporter barrel and stock back on her later.
It looks to me that ballistically I'm not going to give up much with a .243 over other calibers other than barrel life.
Has anyone done a similar build? What suggestions would you make for barrels/stocks/etc.?
Thanks.
Trevor
