I have Savage Model 10 Predator Hunter chambered in 22-250. It currently has a medium contour 22" barrel, large shank threads)with an internal mag. Its 2 years old and has about 500 rds through her. I am thinking about having it rebarreled and making it into a tactical type gun. Before I do I want to make sure the action is worth working with before I spend big bucks on the barrel and stock. What are your thoughts on the standard savave model 10 actions in terms of strength, sturdyness, ability to be accurized etc. My goal woud be to put a heavy McGowen or Douglass 20" or 22" bull barrel on her in 308 or maybe 6.5x284 or something like that. I would be looking for .5MOA or better at 300-600yds and one large hole stuff at 100. Am I barking up the wrong tree or is there possibilities. Currently the gun has the cheap savage plastic camo stock and shoots OK but is inconsistant. I think it's a combo of stock, barrel and rounds but I'm not sure. I was shooting reloads with match bullets of all types and combinations. It shoots .3" one day and 1.5" the next day with the same ammo. Its a great hunting gun as is but I'm looking for more than that. Anyway, again I'm thinking a new stock,B&C maybe) and a good barrel may be a way to save money instead of a target action build?? If not I would probably list it here.
