Build Me a Benchrest Rifle

Stephen:

I have updated my web site to include a page with some of the reamer drawings for the rifles I shoot. On it is the drawing for the .223 Remington Ackley Improved cartridge:

http://www.the-long-family.com/reamer_drawings.htm

I do know that there are quite a few people that shoot this cartridge, so I am sure that by doing a search on this or another forum you can find lots of information. Loading data is all over the place, or it was when I was working up initial loads.

Hope that this helps!

Cheers,

Chris
I like .223 anything. I feel the .223 is the base for some of the best cartridges we have now and for the future. And if you don't need a .22 cal it could be moved up to a 6mm. Thanks Chris I look forward to opening your Web again.

Well I finally got the call I've been waiting for since May 14th...My three lug BAT is ready to go:D:D:D. I'm going to be gluing it into a McMillan HV Edge stock with white to yellow to red flame marbling. Most of the time it will wear a Shilen 17 twist 30BR HV barrel but I have a Kreiger 14 twist 6ppc barrel ready to go also. It will primarily be a 100-200yd IBS Varmint for Score rifle. It will get a Jewell trigger, davidson style bases, Stiller rings and a Weaver 36. Hope It will be ready for the next match in a couple of weeks. This rifle represents the first ground up build of a competition BR rifle on my own. I've only been chambering barrels for about 7-8 months now, but I've had good results so far. I've built a 223 rem groundhog gun that really shoots, as well as chambered several barrels for my sporter, and other varmint and hunting rifles. Putting these rifles together sure is fun and now the only thing I have to wait on is BAT, McMillan, Krieger, Bib, VhitaVhori, Lapua.....hmmmm...did I leave anyone out?;)

Get er done and bring it on! I'm anxious to see it. There may be another new gun on the line too, if I get my butt in gear and finish it for the guy. :)

What a coincidence I am having a rifle put together as I write this. Not a from scratch but a nice boomer. A couple months ago I had a 16.5 lb Cruiser put together in 6 PPC. Couple of my BR buds got into Varmint Rifle Silhouette. I'm borrowing a gun until mine is finished hopefully tomorrow.
My Cruiser which is pillar bedded allowing me to go back to a Rail if I choose is now going to be a 6x47 Lapua. Krieger HV taper 27" with muzzle break wyll share time as my Pala gun. Rem 600 sleeved action balanced and blue printed by Ferris Pindell the master, I have 2 other actions by him. I put a older Leupold 36x on mainly because of the adjustments. Kelbly 4 screw rings. I have a lot of 36x scopes most on my BR rifles. The stock is an early McMillan new red paint. Jewell trigger 1.5 oz. For now my 66 grn bullets will be game, will be looking for steel set of 6 bullet making dies to make the 105's.
I should have the rifle ready to go for next months Shoot. Varmint Rifle Silhouette 200-600m at Pala.
