Help me build a world class 6.5x47 Lupua

I've never seen a dual port in action. what are its advantages? any disadvantages?

Advantages: Speed
Disadvantages: None

I own Dual Port, Right Bolt Right Port, and Right Bolt Left Port. The Dual Port is fastest, followed by RBLP, and RBRP. With changing winds the faster you can shoot the better.

I'm looking for in-depth specs right down to the bedding used that would allow me to order all components needed for the gunsmith to put it together. Assume money not an issue. I could probably just buy a rifle but then it wouldn't really be "my rifle".
Might be a bit more carefull of the wording then.

you're right. I did say that. I guess my thinking has evolved somewhat and I was always good at opening my mouth before I ran it around the block a few times. I can't figure out how you attach a prior quote from someone to your reply.

Dual port, it is. Still trying to figure out how to poll. may never get the hang of forum speak.

Glad to hear you've 'run it around the block' and your thinking has 'evolved'. PM sent with instructions for inserting a prior quote.

I'm currently looking into building a 6.5x47. I'd personally like to go with a Borden Rimrock BR action with a jewell trigger. Then, Clay Spencer is a good smith who's close by so I figure I'd send it to him to have it barreled and have him put one of his barrels on while he's at it (Also the man guarantees 5.0x10^-5 or less runout in his chambers, can't complain about that). More than likely I'll get a 26" light varmint contour because, I don't know for certain, but I suspect I can't hang more than that off of a rem footprint action without getting vertical. I haven't decided on the stock but whatever it is it'll certainly be pillar bedded with devcon. As to the scope, a schmidt & bender would be the ideal, but leupolds are more readily available and definitely get the job done.

I almost went with a dual port but then got to thinking there is no way it can be as stiff as a RPRB only so thats what I went with. But I don't know or have any evidence that is a right conclusion on my part.

yes i would agree that the strenght has to be with single port . however if you check the record books for long range benchrest most of the records are held by dual port rifles . i would say it is because quicker loading time you can run your string faster . T.R.

I've been looking at the Rimrock with the mini port. I can't imagine in such an action with such a small port that you're really giving up much of anything.

Barrel/action/stock is personal choice any good custom will work.

powder dont think ya can beat RL17 in this case

bullet after reading "applied ballistics" Bryan Litz

AMAX, based on cost/performance etc if you can make it shoot done deal
works great on game also

Right now i,m getting ready to test 140vld berger, 140amax for my match rig

I did a ladder test with VV N550 and 139 Scenars in my 6.5x47 Lapua, this thing shoots!

Components and load info. ***Work up to this load!***
6.5x47 Lapua - Lawton 7500 action
30" Krieger 4 groove
Lapua brass
CCI 450 Primers
139 gr. Lapua Scenars 0.020" into the lands
39.8 gr. N550 Powder

I don't know why 40.0 gr. printed that high up, if I had to guess I would say it was something I did! ;D

Hmmm
as 40 went high if not shooter error then 39.8 wud be asking for similar result based on brass diff etc
39 however wud allow for any variances in brass etc and put ya in middle of node.
i load via OCW find it works better than ladder but i use single target like JB suggested

what kinda fps ya running with that load??
damn Vit powders are $$ only seeing 1lb jugs wtf?

i got 4 5lb jugs of rl17 to get thru first, good info thou
congrats on Lapua sponorship

...congrats on Lapua sponorship
Thanks Toney.

Toney, I did more testing than just the ladder test, and 40.0 proved to be very accurate as did 39.6, so I went in between.

That load should be going about 2880 fps.

Man i wish
GOT my neo, rifle etc but no time to nail down load
plus i prefer to do my load work in heat of summer that way i know i,m @ max.
Got scope redone silver but was out sick 3weeks still not 100%
No hurry plenty of time to shoot, might catch ya @ New braunfels one weekend.

shoot well
