I disagree. Hold a redot canted and see where the dot goes. (Arcs opposite of the cant.)Levels for your rest is a different thing than a level for crosshairs. If youre dialing in for different distances like going from mid to long range theyre handy. If you are at a fixed distance and not moving your scope or have sighter shots available a level is just a trinket
So, are you saying rifle/crosshairs being canted does not matter short range as long as rifle is tracking consistently?Levels for your rest is a different thing than a level for crosshairs. When you get sighter shots who cares? Long range, short range, scope set at a 45deg angle- doesnt matter at all as long as youre not clicking the scope expecting it to track. Rests need levels to set them up for tracking purposes, scopes that are not clicking for distance changes without sighter shots do not. But everybody likes gadgets and they definitely do not hurt. So, are you saying rifle/crosshairs being canted does not matter short range as long as rifle is tracking consistently?
Anti-cant devices are very useful at longer ranges off a bipod. All shooting is not done from a bench and rest. While there's no "bout-a-doubt it," you can't have cant, scope or rail levels are one of those items that are as useful (as we like to say in Maine) as tits on a bull! Not to mention it's something else to buy and something else that can come loose, break, and/or go wrong. Save your money (and sanity!), and just make sure the set up and its components (rest, bags, etc.) are square and straight to the rifle, and you're good to go.

Dusty, I get what you are saying, and no doubt the anti-cant devices are less useful for short to medium range bench rest. All shooting disciplines don’t include sighters, and all do not consist of all shots being taken at the same distance. PRS for example. It’s a lot easier to dope your shots for multiple ranges across 300-1200 yds if your elevation changes are actually vertical. When you get sighter shots who cares? think about your rifle having a scope canted to make the crosshairs an X. Shoot a shot, crank the scope to it, start shooting. Who cares if its level.
Thats why i said if youre cranking the scope with no sighter shots (such as prs) youll need one. Any br discipline (1000yds included) gets sighter shots and a canted rifle means nothing unless your scope is not optically centered and shifts cant between sighters and record shots. So we’ll say if youre shooting at a 300yd target and need to dial in to 800yds and get a first round hit you need a level. If your record strings are 20 shots and your rest is settling during that string cant darn sure matters. If you’ve shot off of unimproved firing lines, such as Raton or in the pea gravel at Bayou Rifles, you would see the error in your statement. Certain surfaces can and will allow a rest to shift during a long record string sending a round low and left/right if you miss a cant.Thats why i said if youre cranking the scope with no sighter shots (such as prs) youll need one.
