Broughton Barrels closed !!!

Its true. I put his barrels right up there with Krieger and were some of the best ones I ever owned. There were some health issues. But also he used very good steel and his heat treat was excellent, the barrels were $40 more than a Krieger, I sat on a bunch of them because of that extra $40. Im glad he closed up rather than lower quality to meet a price point. I liked them enough that I purchased a 4 groove button and had them make me conventional 4 groove 6mm barrels.

Grow up in the Mid-West cut my teeth shooting Service Rifle after my Army Time.
I shot with those Wisconsin Barrel Makers . They are the Best.... And for the Money Spent , I will go Cut Rifle Every time .
I still get my Barrels from them .

The thing you must remember ! Like me some of them are getting Older .

Many cut rifling barrel makers got their start with Boots Obermyer. Just to name a couple of his employees who learned at Boots Obermyer, we have John Rock of Rock Creek, James Lederer of Lederer Barrel.

I have not shot an ABC but like what I see in the lathe for what ever that is worth. In all barrels I feel the steel quality and stress relief is the most important part and that, we can not see.

Let's not forget Craig Kostyshyn. He made some of the best barrels on the planet and I've never heard of one that didn't shoot. He had a knack for hand lapping barrels that was unequaled. A handful of well know gunsmiths that I have talked to about Craig all said the same thing.

I'm bummed, really had good luck with his barrels. Seems like when I find something I like, it either gets discontinued or isn't stocked any longer.

So who does that leave making button rifled, canted lands barrels ????

Just informed that Broughton Barrels has closed up shop. Fellow forum member texted me that he spoke to Tim and he closed his doors. I had heard he was selling. It's too bad. I loved their Barrels and Sad to see them close.

I agree 100%. Tim was a gentleman and fellow shooter and great businessman. I'll miss his service and quality barrels. Hoping someone will have more information on his closing up shop. Maybe retirement ??? Hoping not any health related issues. 2020 has been a rough enough year for most people

I have talked to Tim personally a couple of times in the last 4 month and the doors are closed. Everyone is laid off for good. Very sad, they made great barrels. Mostly personal problems. Some to do with all the small cheaper barrels being made. Sorry to see them go. There is no new owner at this time.
