Broken stock, Marlin 336A 35 Remington, looking for help.

UPS. I settled with the seller though, he refunded what we thought was fair and I kept the rifle. The issue was the poor packaging more than anything.

I sold a bunch of guns on gunbroker 10-12 years ago (He used to own a gunshop and everything is totally legal, it's just stuff he brought home. I was mainly selling guns for a friend at 15 percent for 500 or less and 10 percent for north of. I always packed them like a brick. I had an old cane that I would pack waded up newspapers in a cardboard box. I had sold several that were in the 1800-2800 range that thankfully made it to their destinations.
The one I had trouble with was a 579 SAKO in .243 that hadn't been shot a lot but it was a perfect hunter-kind of beat up stock and great internals, it only brought the min bid which was $500. I packed it as was normal for me and somehow UPS broke the stock. My FFL raised hell about it and they would not pay as per insurance because they said I had not packed it properly, but if it had been packed in peanuts "by UPS at a cost" it would have been fine.
I paid insurance on a bunch of guns, then when I needed their help they hung me out to dry. To this day I have not sold anything on gunbroker since.
Just don't think just because you're right, you'll be backed up.
If you can't buy insurance to cover your ass then at least I can't play. Gary

It looks like it is split along the grain, in what way will it be noticible if it was to be repaired> Are there some splinters missing at the surface that would show?

Unfortunately the break isn’t as clean as it looks, the worst of it is around the grip where to small chunks broke off at angles that would be hard to repair. The main break is along the grain but is missing some micro pieces that weren’t found, it could be repaired but I think it would be one of those things that would always bug me. Probably gonna go with Boyd’s, Ive been talking to them, seems like a good path. I appreciate all the help and suggestions.
