Wow! What a great turnout for our first Long-Range Match of the year! A total of 48 shooters on the line this weekend!
We even had some ‘new to us’ shooters join us from Maine and Massachusetts –a big “welcome to Delaware” to Charlie Trickett, Dan Sales, Henry Bardol, Kyle Bartman, and Brian Murphy. I hope you guys had some fun with us this weekend, and that we will see you again soon.

It was really nice to see 14 straight-through Palma shooters on the line! Not too often do we get that many Hard Core Iron Sight Nuts on the line!

Now, the “Thank You’s”. As always a big thank you to George and Nikki for all they do to make our matches possible –grass cutting, porta-pooper moving, stats work –it all adds up!

Thank you too, to everyone who helped set up and tear down the targets and range ‘stuff’! We couldn’t do this without help and yours is much appreciated.

Now, on to the match. For those who weren’t there, we fired a Palma Course (45 shots) plus an additional 20 shots at 1000 yards today, and fired 3 matches of 20 shots yesterday, for a total of 125 record shots and a potential score of 1250 points.

Conditions –yeah, we had some, especially today. That was some funky wind –flags going every which way, dust devils on the range, mirage, more mirage, mirages of mirage… None of it made sense, but it sure made the day interesting…

We will start with F-T/R today (they are almost as neglected as Palma shooters… :) ).
Chris Fairbanks took the category win for the two days of shooting, firing a nice 1197-32X. Well done, Chris! Right close behind was Todd Strasavich, who fired a pretty nice 1195-32X for the ‘1’. Nice going guys! We still need more T/R guys on the line, I think.

Over in F-Open, there was a pretty tight battle going on for the category win, with the top three places separated by only 2 points. At the end of the weekend, Mike Eash took the W, scoring 1226-48X. Nice going, Mike! Right behind him, but with 11 more X’s, was Andy Amber firing a nice 1224-59X. I wonder if he would trade a few of those X’s for a couple more points? And right behind Andy, (with only one less X), was Jack Neith, who fired a nice 1224-58X score (same question applies to Jack…).

The sling shooters were separated by those of us silly enough to use Palma rifles for both days, and those smart enough to use a more suitable long-range gun for the 3 x 1000 match…

The Palma/ANY rifle guys were led by Jim Cronin, who fired a nice 1214-55X for the category win. Well done, Jim! Close behind was Charlie Trickett, firing a nice 1208-43X.

The Palma/Palma category win and overall high score went to Jerry McDonough, who fired a really nice 1234-54X. Who says iron sighted .308’s can’t shoot?!? Seriously good shooting, Jerry. Slightly behind was perennial threat Jon Howell, who shot a nice 1217-49X, shooting a .223 Palma rifle! Today, that was certainly a challenge, ‘cause it was UGLY out there. Well done, Jon! Right behind him was Matt Zagorski, firing a nice 1213-37X with his .308.

Even though the conditions were tough (OK, near impossible) to actually understand, I think most everyone had a good time –we didn’t get wet, it wasn’t too cold, or too hot, and we were with our friends on the range. It’s pretty hard to top that, I think.

As always, results and our schedule may be found here: https://brpc-de.com/high-power-rifle/

The next Bridgeville match will be a Mid-Range FullBore Plus match held on Saturday, May 10th.

I hope to see you on the line again soon,

Frank
