Brian Bowling ties National Record Lousianna F-Class

I`m pretty sure Brian will be shuddering windows many places. I have shared much more than a cutting tool.

Congrads Brian! Tight shooting!! That .260 is shooting well it looks like...really glad it was a registered match. Don't let those two tens that slipped out keep you awake at night..they will if you let them...18X is an incredible score!

Congrads to Jon James for silver as well!!!! Just can't count the old farts out yet!! ;D ;D

The case is a basic Dasher, that I tweeked some to give a longer neck. It eats Dasher loads and has better options for seating the various 6mm pills. I am helping Brian with metalwork, and he is teaching me how to shoot!! This is a win, win situation for us both. I know of no one who gives it more work and attention to detail than Brian. I am just giving him new places to look at detail. He is dedicated beyond belief. I am 56 and am having trouble keeping up with this young man!!

Sailhertoo,

Once you start running registered matches like Russ and me, then you'll understand the importance of the NRA rules, especially when it comes to National records. I'm not defending the rules, but there's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes with writing match programs and reporting scores to the NRA that many shooters are not aware of.

Both of us are just looking out for a fellow TN shooter and hoping that he gets credit where credit is due. The NRA appeared to be responding to all the complaints about delayed postings of national records in the last SSUSA online magazine, so I felt it worthwhile to back up Russ's note first addressing the subject.

Thanks for the personal attack though. Makes me really inspired to keep running the F-Class matches at AEDC in spite of the fact that I don't even shoot F-Class any more.

Brian's final information-
200-18X- Ties National Record as it is currently listed
600- 46X- single string range record (we shoot 3 strings of 20 for a normal match, so each day stands alone as a range record in a Regional or State match)
1197-93X- 120 shot range record

Brian has come down and shot with us a few times and is a great young man.

I hope to make it up to shoot in Tennessee with him and you guys in the near future. That is if you'll let a guy from Louisiana come that far north.

Common up this fall Rick.

Ill be running the October match. Would be happy to have you, Bring some friends as well. Maybe a National Record is in your future as well? The range is home to over 60 National Mid Range records in prone, f-O and FTR.

PS I was just pointing out that sometimes National Records are not approved because the way the program is written or its not a registered match. For this I was hoping that Brian gets his due credit in such a stellar performance.
Heck even if it was in practice it would have been an amazing feat.

Russ
Hope to make it back up to your place this fall. Last year was a fantastic match.
Both venues are well run and attended with quality contestants.

Russ, I knew what you were trying to make sure of and checking is a good thing. We always make sure to follow the correct method for the matches. I would hate for someone who did their part to miss out because I didn't do mine.

Good shooting Bryan! That's awesome on a calm day but devastating on a windy day! Last time I tied a national record it took the NRA about 10 months to post it. I thought it was forgotten when I got the certificate. Sorry to rain on your parade but I did shoot a 19X in September so I assume they will get around to posting it in July-August this year? I don't know what takes so long? I still have the score sheet. Hang on to yours and report it anyway. You never know what might happen. Regardless- hell of a good shoot.

Great shooting. A note on records, in order for a record to be recognized it has to be at a "Registered" match. Scores shot in an "Approved" matches are not recognized for records. I think from time to time some folks get caught in this and don't realize that their scores aren't eligible for establishing the record. I haven't run one but the biggest difference I see if that there have to be two non-shooting officials at an approved match.

It's the "after" paperwork that can also get screwed up.....with an Approved Tournament, fairly simple Tornament Reporting Card:

plus:

http://competitions.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/tourn-forms/fee-report-web.pdf

For Registered Tournaments there is a lengthy 4 page form required that has to be signed by 2 different Reporting Officals, I tried to find it in PDF but it's not there on the NRA web site. It asks for Names and addresses of all Tournament Officals, about the Conditions of the Range, Pitts, Firing Line, how the Competitors felt about the Range, Commands, Tournament Operation, yadda-yadda-yadda......wish I had a hard copy to scan.

then:

http://competitions.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/tourn-forms/NatlRecordRpt.pdf

plus:

http://competitions.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/tourn-forms/fee-report-web.pdf

and if you want the info posted in Shooting Sports online:

http://www.nrapublications.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Reporters_Worksheet.pdf

The bottom line is the Tournament Sponsor and Match Officals who do all the hard work before, during and after are the ones responsable for getting the "possible" National Records reported, after it's in the hands of the NRA it was a crap shoot, but they do seem to be getting better. I have turned in Tournament Reports before only to find out (8 months later) they (NRA) lost them, so I then emailed them the info (I scanned/saved/backed up every score card, SR-1 card, Reporting Form and Match Fee form just because of things like this) and had to stay on them to get them Awarded.

All paperwork has been turned in. BTW- the record 200-18X (as it shows now) was set by John Brewer at Palo Alto on April 3, 2011. I was scoring for him when he set the record. The guy in the pits had it really easy. Just move the spotter a little.

Bryan, Sorry but just got the paper work from the NRA. 200-19X is the record. Still REALLY NICE shooting. Don't let anybody say otherwise. Very few shooters have ever done that! Besides, all you need to do is shoot two more X's. FYI when you do shoot 20X's (I am sure its only a matter of time) Keep shooting until you drop an X. Some records at shorter range are like 23X. Good luck, I hope you beat it soon.
