Brass rods for a squib

What I've done for my pistol bore... .45acp, is to wrap the rod with cellophane tape. Just build it up, one strip width in two or more places. Kinda like Borden Bumps. It will keep a smaller rod centered. It also protect the bore from any real or imagined scuffing, if you're wired that way.

But as has been said, keep dropping the rod. I have been known to give it a bit of boost on its downward journey.

If your obstruction is plastic tipped, deformation may have to take place before the energy will be transferred.

Well I bought the 3/16 ×36, and I put solvent into the barrel and left it for a few hours. I inserted the brass rod and couldn't get it to budge. Tapped it a few times with a mallet and still nothing....ugggh
I would have used PB Blaster , Kroil (a penetrate) .

I'm not sure if oxidizing copper swells like iron oxide does on steel?

I've stuck one jacketed bullet and it was a 243 spitzer in about 8 inches. With the muzzle pointed up I gave it a generous soak over night with kroil. Never have had much luck with pb blaster. On my brass rod I wrapped painters tape every couple inches so the rod was a tight slip going into the bore otherwise it can flex in the barrel. Next my secret weapon, my wifes helping hands, butt up against a solid backing, her left hand on the barrel, her right hand on the muzzle joint where the rod was sliding in, my left hand on the rod. I used my right hand with a 5 pound hammer giving it a good swing so the first blow would break the bullet loose. Light taps, a rod flexing, or the rifle being able to move will swell the bullet only sticking it tighter. On mine I was lucky and the first hard blow moved it. Gave the wife a big kiss also.

Well I took it to a gunsmith and even he wasn't able to budge it while I was there. I left it with him and it will soak overnight in solvent.
Then while he is working on it he will also thread my barrel.
