Brass jags

Not to add more fuel to this already smoldering trash fire, but:

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, however, it can also have tin or iron added depending on what the application is. That being said, there can be less than 40% copper in the alloy and it can still be "Brass"

Bronze, however, is mostly copper. Usually 80% or more.

The reason that is important, is that jags are usually Brass and depending on what other metals are alloyed in, it may not react to copper solvents much at all.

I would agree. It may take longer to get a reaction with some brands.
I use Sweets simply because it's about the strongest on the market and
will get a reaction. Note on my earlier test post, Sweets did show a positive
blue although not as vibrant if used on a bullet or brush. Also, a brush has
a much larger surface area for the ammonia to get in and work. But we are
talking jags here, and Sweets showed blue in a short time frame. When I'm
using Sweets in my bores, I use a nylon brush wrapped with a patch. Just no
chance for a false positive.

I’m guessing if you took a soaked patch and rubbed the jag, the results would probably show a little more blue.

Here's a pic of three different brass colored jags taken 60 sec after wetting with BT Eliminator.
To take the pic, I rolled each one slightly so you can see where it was on the patch.
The one on the left essentially 'instantly' showed some blue.
The one on the far left did not 'instantly' show blue but did within 15-20 sec.

To me, for the purpose we use jags, showing blue within 30 seconds fits my definition of 'instant'.

After the pic was taken, the one of the left showed much deeper blue.

I just use Thorroclean and scrub the copper out Montana extreme has nearly melted some of my jags and brushes in the time it takes to clean a barrel.

While reading this I put sweets on two different make of Jigs and both turned blue one darker than the other. Never tested this before but thought that the jigs was some of the blue I was getting while cleaning the barrel . Now I know .

I really think that you can't remove all the copper with a non-aggressive cleaner , but do you really need to remove all the copper ?
Yeah. I don't think so.
BoreTech said that once the blue turns lighter, it's just getting copper in the 'pores' of the steel.
