Boy are we getting screwed

Looking at 6MM ARC brass and loading 103 grain ELDX VS buying loaded 103 grain ELDX it's a bust. It's more for the bullet and brass then the loaded round, then it's the primer, powder and my time.

The best I can do is buy 105 grain Hornady Black match shoot if for the brass as practice. It shoots great, then I can load the 103 ELDX for carry and hunting. Once I acquire the once fired brass I'm loading for less than half price of new.

With the 6MM ARC in an AR (which is what I have) I'm not going to get a significant improvement in performance so for a fellow who doesn't shoot a great deal buying the ammo is reasonable. However saving the brass and reloading is a cost effective move.

OK Free Brass $0
1000 Primers $110
1000 Bullets $120
Powder $40
Hours of handling itsy bitsy cases.
$260 including tax and shipping.

OR

1000 Rounds delivered $275

Been getting screwed since we "believed" lead shot was killing waterfowl by ingestion. That's when the anti gun crowd(democrats, socialists, marxist) learned they could price beat the constitution. Now they just lie to create the next crisis as they move to the 2030 agenda.

Dirty Dog hit it on the head, one reloading and how to to so and really save money.
If you shoot a lot, it is the only way to fly and enjoy our sport, unless you do have plenty of money and want and can buy factory ammunition.
Along with the fact that reloading is a good hobby and sure beats wasting money on booze and wild women.

Certainly less dangerous... And lasts longer.

I haven't had more than a few dates in most of decade. Yes, I get lonely.
... But I tell you. Man, the quiet is very nice too. The only crazy I have to deal with is mine or my female bullmastiff.

Shooting is better for your body than reloading for hours on end. I will say that.

I have 9mm really cheap for sale and no one wants it. There is no shortage of 9mm ammo. Quite the contrary. They can't drop the prices because they are upside down.

It all started with wanting to load 9mm, had bullets, primers, powder but no empty cases.
So I figured I would just get some new 9mm brass.

That's when the title of this thread became evident. It costs almost as much to buy ONLY 9mm brass than it does for loaded ammo.

Instead of buying the brass I bought 1000 rounds of 9mm for $275.00 including tax and shipping. The price for 1000 pcs of unprimed brass is $240.00 shipped and I would have to add $100.00 for primers $100.00 for bullets and say $30.00 for powder PLUS my time. SCREW THAT.

I may have to take up gardening.
I have range pick up 9mm. $2.00 per pound + Shipping.

PV sent me an email today. Sierra 9 mm fmj 500ct. $130 just for the bullets. Farther down the email was Blazer loaded 9mm for $130 for 500 rnds. No powder no bullets no loading time. Something is not right!!
Jesse your so right. And as long as all the IDIOTS keep paying crazy component prices, they will stay inflated and eventually increase. So if you say I can afford to pay anything so I will, I am Mr Macho. Well, in about another year you and your 1 or 2 buddies will be a match of 2 or 3. So knowing a couple years ago we were going into an ugly election cycle you weren't smart enough to stock up, now your at the mercy of the global profiteers. It doesn't bode well for the powder burning sports. The Progressives are killing us using Supply and Demand and as a group we are buying right into it. So now I'm ready about shooting 100 shot groups, LMAO.

You're hand loading. Hand loading can be super expensive, depending on your component prices. You're not doing it the "wrong" way, but you for sure are doing it the expensive way. Buying new 9mm brass, firing it 1x and discarding it is NOT economical. Neither is loading new 308 Lapua cases and discarding them after 1x.

RE-loading is where it's at for economy. It's fairly easy for most to pick up free 9mm brass without ever having to buy any, ever. Same for 556. All my 9mm/556 brass is free pickup and I have tons of it. Makes a big $$ difference. Most RE-loaders only buy brass they intend to RE-load 5x, 10x, or 20x. You get quality brass and spread the cost out over a number of firings.

Current primer prices are killing the economy of reloading 9mm, but my current cost for 9mm at today's prices with a very good jacketed HP bullet is $10.99/50 or $220/1000 rounds. Precision Delta 124gr jhp V1 over 4.2gr W231 and any primer I can get. That's a very accurate load in my pistols and it beats the snot out of "cheap" factory ammo. My limiting factor, besides me, is the ability to aim a pistol with a crude 1x Trijicon red dot optic. This is 10 rounds at 25 yards. View attachment 1396759

Learn to, Scavenge and Buy,.. RIGHT,.. THIS AIN'T,. Rocket Science !

I'll use new brass for carry ammo.
Practice ammo uses range pickup.
Might want to use only factory loaded ammo for carry. There have been some guys really put thru the ringer in court after a self defense shooting. They were all painted as a mad scientist in a dimly lit basement handcrafting ammo designed to rip their victims apart laughing in the air every bullet that came out.

Actually according to our family lawyer, that approach by prosecutors has got torn to pieces in my area since handgun ammo got so expensive. Handloading has become part of the poor boys rite to self defense.

Not only that, but we are taught to use the most effective tool when defending yourself. If you're afraid of them using hand loading against you, you might as well use ball ammo, 22lr, or a pointy stick. Using anything less than the most effective tool to stop the threat plays into the anti-gunner's hands.

I use 9MM 124 XTP +P+, 357 Sig 124 XTP European loads and 45 Super 230 grain XTP.

Whatever you feel is the best tool to defend yourself. I hate that argument against defensive hand loads. If anyone is afraid of being put through the ringer, they might as well not carry because you will go through it no matter what ammo you used.

Well loading for precision rifle leaves me no choice. But brass & bullets are crazy high now. Good new brass is $1 per round. Good bullets can be 80 cents each. So now you're at $1.80 per round + primer & powder. So it's $2 per round.
In a 60rd F Class match, that's $120 for ammo. Add travel expenses and I just can't do it. I only shoot local matches now.

This is 100% accurate and great advice
One hour and a criminal lawyer will turn this into intent and 5 more minutes entrapment.
Drag your wife in also if she’s on the deed, as allowing this heinous activity of hand loading take place s as n her premises.

I just got into reloading a month or so ago, driven by the purchase of a new Henry Big Boy X in .38/.357 Magnum. The 357 magnum ammo around here is nearly unobtainable. I bought some starline brass for $29/100 and some Hornady XTP Bullets for $24/100. Primers took awhile to find and loading with W296. Now if it would warm up enough to shoot the 5 different loads I worked up to see which is best.

Next is to figure out a good load for the .38 special brass.
