$35 for 100 of the 103 grain ELDX. That's tough to believe. I don't want Grendel brass, I'll just have to do it the hard way.
If you order 300 then it works out to 40c with freight. or if you drive 70 mi r/t to the store then probably a bit more!

New brass cost is still the definitive issue in costs. I have way to many firearms to have missstamped case heads. It's still better to buy practice ammo and keep the brass, then the lower cost projectiles work out well.If you order 300 then it works out to 40c with freight. or if you drive 70 mi r/t to the store then probably a bit more!

You must be young! Primers are 10 times what I consider reasonable.I'd say primers are the are the component out of wack comparatively. They are 3x what they should be when everything else is at most 1/2 to double more than what we are used to paying.

The thing that saves me is I don't compete, I hunt and practice. I've also amassed a rather large inventory 9ver the decade or so. Now that my health is back in order the only thing I need acquire is a few thousand rounds of inventory for my 6 ARC. I've settled on practicing with the 105 Black to acquire brass then loading up the 103 ELDX for carry and game. You can use an AR and 24 caliber in my State.
I'll agree with that! Then the hazmat charge for shipping, YUK!not that young!! what I am trying to say is primers are the most relatively over priced part of the loading mix. If I were shooting with an AR then I wouldnt care what brass I was using!

On the AR posts some of the guys are finicky with the brass they want to use. As long as it's sorted by head stamp and all trimm uniform I don't worry too much with an AR. Of course with the 6MM ARC you're stuck with a more limited range of manufacturers.
Being retired helps to, I have been doing business with several shops with a couple hours drive for decades. I'll order up junk and spend the day browsing their shops and picking up my junk.I hear ya. I found a gunshop/feedstore in texas that was shipping me powder and primers at a decent price to oregon in a plain wrapper box. That was a year ago. stocked up now. That helped!!
Wow. Then I must be lucky, since many police depts use our range and leave their 9mm brass on the ground. It all started with wanting to load 9mm, had bullets, primers, powder but no empty cases.
So I figured I would just get some new 9mm brass.
That's when the title of this thread became evident. It costs almost as much to buy ONLY 9mm brass than it does for loaded ammo.
Instead of buying the brass I bought 1000 rounds of 9mm for $275.00 including tax and shipping. The price for 1000 pcs of unprimed brass is $240.00 shipped and I would have to add $100.00 for primers $100.00 for bullets and say $30.00 for powder PLUS my time. SCREW THAT.
I may have to take up gardening.

I picked up 1000s of fired 9mm at the range for free.It all started with wanting to load 9mm, had bullets, primers, powder but no empty cases.

That is not the point at all. If you buy all new components its cheaper to buy factory ammo.I picked up 1000s of fired 9mm at the range for free.
