Box Stands for Deer Hunting

Been enjoying this thread gents, thanks for sharing here!
Btw, we re-positioned the box outlined earlier in this thread & building a second one, soon. Will be sure to snap some pics of this one, too. Can't say it'll be exactly the same, cuz ya never know what'll turn out when ya give a couple fellas power tools and some Labatt's Blue for fuel...;)

I accomplished my mission today! Help didn’t arrive until the last wall and I was in need of help by then for sure. Lol assembly time was about 4-5 hours.
The roof is now measured to accommodate the trees and will be the next project and challenge to raise as a prebuilt unit.

So, is that blind bolted to the two forked trees while being supported by the ladder in front ?

Chain binders.
This situation created some problems with the trees not leaning enough in either direction so I had to make stands off the frame for the roof to overhang. These trees are very solid white oaks and where I wanted this stand so I took the time to measure them at the point of contact for a glove fit to the trees.

Great idea so as the trees grow taller or bigger in diameter, you can loosen the binders, re- level and tighten. Unless the ladder has a height adjustment, raise the ladder.

Trees actually don’t get much taller at those points, that been proven. It was a common misconception and still is that came from soil erosion from livestock walking along fence lines.
As far as adjusting the binders for diameter growth , they shouldn’t need it for several years due to the long teeth on the contacts.

Wow! I could not do building in the woods in the middle of the summer here with all the heat and humidity. Would have heat stroke for sure. Be careful.

Excellent work tho! But I am not fully understanding how you got your platform up into the tree. Did you use pulleys that were up in the tree and then just hoist the platform up with cables using your pickup? How high is your platform?

I just got lucky and nailed the landing. 2500lb nylon flat rope is ideal for this work and it may take some patience and steering with tag lines. It’s important to balance the 2 lines at the start before you have trouble at the top. I did get my big toe under it briefly pulling the bottom out and it didn’t like that. Lol was very nice yesterday with the Canadian cold front moving in so I took advantage of it. I still got pretty hot and sweaty but I wanted to see this up.

I bought a pallet years ago to make multiple size box blinds for treestands. They let me mix black and white (50/50). At that time they were 11.00 per sheet. Bought 10 sheets about 3 years ago and they were 18.00 ea. Today they are around 22.00 at Home Depot. Same place I've been getting them. Prices sure have changed. It was 2003 when I first bought that pallet. In fairness, they were about 14-15.00 per sheet when bought individually. Pallet purchase made them a bit less.
I’ve bought it locally from a sign shop for $15 a sheet for target repair. They order it weekly, It’s probably $20 now though...

I like hunting from wood stands for some reason. A hip roof is a real pain to build, but it offers the overhang all the way around for keeping the stand dry and glass clean. I’ve spent $89.63 so far and now it’s time to take the scrap and put in the bird blocks. Taking a work break for a couple days to keep my stand money coming in. Lol
Getting this under roof is priority one once you start a project. I doubt that it gets finished out with glass and all the frills until next year. But it will do the job this year!

It's a work in progress as mine is. I'm not finished yet but it will work as is this year if I do not do anything else to it. I want wooden storm window covers on all 4 windows. Hinged to allow them to cover the windows during rain ice storms and keep unwanted pests out in summer months. Also to act as awnings when opened during use. Still need to complete insulating the ceiling and floor. The real test will be once winter comes, did I build it tight enough to keep out the mice. Have to post my results in the new year.

I’m sealing for warmth and mouse proofing. By cutting the birds down to fit onto the outside edge to gain a shelf inside the scrap cutoff works for widening the hip for adhesive foam strips on each side for the tin roof to lay.

FA6DA2A3-AE8E-44D2-AF5C-724ED491A9E0.jpeg View attachment 1060790 Took a chance mowing the clover a 2nd time and it worked out with watering heavily during a very dry spell. Last year I waited until too late and wasn’t happy with the 1B324CA6-E46D-4E6F-8019-A9D4F10BB6E2.jpeg 3F9FBE1D-033F-460A-8EFA-4F0B23611E1B.jpeg results. The acorn crop isn’t going to feed the deer this year so I’m expecting this field to be the hot ticket. Planting my turnips tomorrow for a heavy traffic year on this field.
I’ve found that a duel cropping is very attractive to the deer and clover-turnips about the cheapest to plant.

Implanting my turnip, clover, rape and winter peas plot next weekend. Not sure how our acorn crop is this year but it's usually good most years. My plot sits near a huge oak plantation so food is abundant. My biggest issue is that my food plots do not get enough good sunlight.

This is done just in time before a week full of rain. Seed costs $10, truck and tractor fuel $20
I’ve tried too many times to plant in the woods with clover and turnips, won’t do it again. The only thing that produced anything was rye, wheat and oats. My woods plot isn’t wide enough east and west and the southern exposure just isn’t enough sunshine.

Seeded 2 more turnip plots today for friends. Hard to beat $1.75 per pound

We’ve had 2 rains so far around 1/2” each so should see some green soon.
September 15th starts our season in just weeks away now!!

Had to mow again. Damn foxtail
