Box Stands for Deer Hunting

I’ve been battling those little stinkers in one of my stands. Poison and caulking gun trying to evict those determined little suckers. Last year I had to pump water on my clover and found out just how big a army I was fighting. They took over the mole runs in the field and turned them into barracks! Lol
wait till you find a rattlesnake,,in my warehouse right under my harley I was just getting ready to throw my leg over..needless to say ONE DEAD SNAKE..

All done. Decided it was alot faster and easier leaving it assembled and using the JD !

Very nice. Question, how is the base for stability?
Without braces, not real sturdy even tho it won't fall over. With braces, no wind will move it and it's a whole lot more solid without movement when climbing in to it or while moving around in it. I removed the braces to do some work under it. There going back on next weekend when I put padding and carpet in.

Back up and braced. Anchored with 6 ft. t-posts and chain. Also ran a chain from the bottom where another anchor will be. Very little damage. Have to run some screws in one corner where the box pulled loose. But, back square and solid thanks to a great couple of friends. It's hot and the ticks are BAD. Took a can of permethrin and sprayed under and around the stand. Note that I used the elevator brackets and am satisfied with the product.Last week........

Nothing like a good friend with a skid steer......

Lots of sizes and styles to choose from. I have built 4x4, 4x8, and even 3x4 that I had to lug in thick east Texas bush land and screw all together once I got the pieces in. I have put 6’ high, 12 ft high and used them on the ground. I have some of my best times hunting setting on nothing but a bucket. There are great pop up blinds as well.

For me the terrain dictates how high etc. if I’m taking youngsters out I would rather have something with more room.

Here is the way I build most now and hunt right on the ground. Believe it or not I bow hunt out of the. The frames last for years and if I want to move it the light weight and fact that I can turn on side and roll is a plus

What size cage is that ? Do you make your own cover pattern that is one piece and covers it or in several pieces that attach together ? Does the cage come apart into more than one piece ? Sorry for all the questions but looks like a great blind for long hauls into deep woods hunts if it breaks down a bit.

The one one the picture is just shy of 6’ diameter. I rolled 3/4 conduit and wired the 16’ cattle panel to it. I normally put a small Camo tarp on top to keep rain off of me and wrap the whole thing including top with some type of Camo burlap. It allows you to brush it in really well to blind in with surroundings. I can cut a couple of the grids open and have bow hunting out of them. They are light and easy to handle as you can just roll it around with out the covering.

They do have draw backs compared to a sure nuff box blind. They don’t keep the elements off as well. Blowing rain can find itself in as well as the stitch are pole cats and can get mighty cold. I can’t tell you how many pop ups and lean to stands i have lost to thief’s but never one of these.

I don’t know that it would lend itself well to breaking down and packing in really thick brush tho. I don’t know if you have ever seen the ghost blinds or mirror blinds but I would like to try one. Some of my friends don’t care to hunt in the elements but I don’t mind just setting on a folding hunting stool or Camo bucket. It is an absolute rush to have deer come right in on you like that. I know the probability of getting a shot off is a lot harder but man it’s fun. Change critters and have even a decent size swine come on you in the open and it will clean out your arteries lol.

I think you can buy the box stands online, and can build in just a few hours maximum, if you buy all materials by yourself and try to make a box stand, this will lost a lot of time and need more equipment too.

The size really depends on how many people do you want to use.

Hey that’s cheating, any nut scratcher can “buy” one. Lol. We are into our own creations designed around our needs and site. Just more time in the woods for some of us...

Putting up my floor and walls tomorrow!! Been watering my clover into a park. I’m excited about this year! I can feel a trophy coming my way!

Don't forget to post pics. Putting my office chair(s) in mine tomorrow and installing the pvc urinal tube thru the floor. Flashed all my posts and ladder from critter infiltration. These cool mornings make working on the blind pretty nice.

I've built several out of Cloroplast which is a corregated plastic. It can be used to form the walls, door, and roof of a box stand.
It comes in 4'x8' sheets in several colors. Build a base from 2"x4"
's and 1/2" plywood. Build the frame from 2"x2"'s. Cloroplast is mainly used to make outdoor signs. It is extremely light, is rigid, can be cut with a box cutter, is waterproof, mildue proof, and if painted will last for years. If the roof is not painted UV will ruin it in 3 or 4 years.

I have many treestands in many shapes and sizes that I altered by adding a different base and adding walls and roof made of 1x2 or 2x2 and the 1/8" corrigated plastic walls for boodocking stands to remote locations. They are light, easy to assemble and conceal a hunter from an elevated location. Also they hold heat well when heated. Actually thought about building and selling them. Many people have an interest in them when they see them. You definitely don't see many out there.
