Box Stands for Deer Hunting

Beautiful interior. That said, Is that a couple milk crates I see with a cushion on them ? That's like putting whitewalls on a dump truck, just don't fit. Tell me that there's a REAL chair somewhere in there.
Nope, no chairs just a couple of milk crates with a boat cushion, I will fall a sleep if I'm too comfortable.

Ya I hear ya. When I'm hunting from treestands from Oct 1st thru November 14th with a bow unconditionally regardless of the weather (within reason), I'm ready to sit in a warm comfy shack in a strato lounger. Falling asleep IF that happens is ok with me. I'm only really hunting for meat by then meaning (antlerless) Does. I guess everyone has different agendas but that Sir, is one very well built blind.

I'm always out hunting does in late December during the Late Antlerless Season. I usually quit hunting earlier just to save room for one late season kill. This year it was particularly cold. Nothing beats a warm blind and comfortable chair when the temps are below 20.

Not to hijack this thread. But I got the ledger board up today. PT 2"x 6" ~16' high. This is as high as I could lift the frame by myself. I plan to use the "front end loader" on my old John Deere to lift it the remainder of the way. Sorry for the lousy quality pics.

8'x6' with a little over 6" of headroom. All the windows are removable. two in the back and one at each end. Has carpet, two office chairs and a propane heater. 10' to the trapdoor in the floor. Looks out across a TVA right-of-way and up a ridge. Can see about 200 yards in two directions. Woods to the rear and right side. Left side looks down on another TVA R-O-W. Very comfortable and a very good place to spend a quiet morning. I even take a deer now and then.

And instead of opening one full width window, you can open only the one you need, still having an entire view thru that panel of windows. Slick idea. Another idea worth considering.

Lots of glass is the only way to go, you would miss seeing so much that the hunt wouldn’t be the same for me. I went corner to corner with double tracking and 4 equal panels of real 1/4” glass on the sides so anything can open. Put adhesive Velcro on the edges for quieter openings. Glass panels are cheaper than a couple windows cost without compromising the budget you get full view. Built the tracks with 1/2” X 3/4 door stop but plastic lined aluminum double tracks are available.

4x4 is too small. 5x5 will work but not for two. 6x6 is not too big to heat. i tried to handgun hunt out of one with window openings that were too short and wasn't comfortable with how i would manage .44mag recoil. i could visualize chopping the back of my wrist/forearm so i never touched off a round.

What about using tennis court privacy screen for the sides? You can see thru it but blocks a lot of light / ~95%..Anybody ever used this material for the sides?

I use plain black fiberglass window screen. First I lay it on cardboard and lightly spray with camo paints. Then I use weather strip adhesive to spot glue it to the outside of the windows. Animals can't see in but I can see out. If I have the window in front of me open, the animals can't see me easily with the other windows prepped as described. The nicest part is that it fits a retirees budget.

Good info Timeout.. appreciate that..I may just give that a try. I may paint the ceiling "sky blue" my folks did that on their porch ceiling and it seems to help keep birds from building nests, other than Carolina Wrens. They will build inside your mouth if you keep it open too long..

I worked on the new box yesterday. Until "my" battery gave out. "Me" 16' off the ground and by ones self is a bugger. Anyway got a good start. I used an old lintel for the corner braces.

Took the day off from work and got the roof on. 5/8" plywood from shipping crates. I used felt paper and the metal from the house that feel in. It's 23' to the apex.. Built a frame out one side and worked of a 6' ladder to get the last pieces on..pucker up..:)

I've hunted from a 4x4 and while I can't say it's too small, it's not as comfortable for ALL my gear plus for me to move around in. To shoot from, it's perfect in size without needing to move to shoot from any of the windows. I'm building a 6x6 because it's roomy enough for up to 3 and with one or two can hold enough gear and stay comfortable. For window openings, I'll never build one again without full 360° windows. 10-12" tall. Only the 2x2" corner post will be what I'll have to see around. There is just way too much to miss with small windows and more wall to block your view
