Borescope rifles

For a relatively inexpensive borescope the one from Lyman does a pretty good job. The Hawkeye borescope is a nice piece but the cost is substantially higher. I'm not a gunsmith so the Lyman I have suits my needs.

+1 for the Lyman Bore-cam.
Note: for barrel cleaning, I prefer the Lyman Bore-cam over the higher magnified Hawkeye borescope.

Do yall find the 22 inch length on the lyman a peoblem? Or just switch barrel ends to check the other side muzzle vs chamber on longer barrels?

Not a big deal, I just go at it from both ends. Primarily just the first 12" or so how I'm cleaning, and hardly any time spent looking down the bore further, except for the crown, which I look at thoroughly as well.

Also have a Teslong Bore-scope (NTS150B) that I like very much.
But it only works in 6.5-cal or bigger bores (it has a mirror diameter to big for smaller bores).
Compared to the Lyman: a clearer/better image and has better lighting - IMO

A Lyman is plenty good to scare you with.

Be prepared for disappointment as well. You'll see first hand if your cleaning skills & choices for solvents are up to snuff or not. I was terribly disappointed in my process and choices just this past Friday to the point I had to pull out 3 rifles and start all over to remove copper fouling I "thought" my solvent was removing. :(

Lyman for the average shooter is fine, it is a digital image. The Hawkeye is a true optical image. I have had both.

If you have been a "soaker" with patches, then be prepared for a horror show.

The Lyman fits .20 caliber and up,uses SD cards, If you want to you can take Digital pictures of your bore and store them on a SD card. Makes it nice to compare what bore looked like when new.Great for checking throat area, etc. You see them on sale for around $175,thats about $6-700 cheaper than a hawkeye

Having heard unpleasant stories about the Lyman falling apart on people and also being unwilling to spend $$$ on a Hawkeye (for now), I went for a low-cost optical option at $350: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077LBTCH1/?tag=accuratescom-20
Been using it for a couple of weeks and it seems to do what I need. It comes with a right angle eyepiece as standard and a cell phone (camera) holder attachment. It will fit down a .22 with the right angle mirror tube and it fits a .177 without it. Without the angle tube you get an image with a blurry center and some detail around the edges, which is probably all you can get optically and much better than no image at all.

It's doing the job so far. Hard to say how it compares since I've not used a Hawkeye or Lyman.

Looking for a borescope to check for carbon build-up in my rifles. Any ideas? thanks
Setup up and buy the Hawkeye. It is more money but worth every penny. You will never be sorry you bought it. I couldn't live without mine. Best piece of equipment I have ever bought.

Not trying to be a smart person
But does it shoot
That all that matters

Not lately. I bought to scope to confirm it's not a fouling issue. The scope has confirmed that.

I have some Barts Ultra FB 68's coming. If I can't those to shoot, I'll have to wait until my new Kreiger arrives and is installed. Otherwise I'm wasting resources.
