bore pastes

what is everyones input on using these products (JB)? i was told by a rep at Hart rifle barrels not to use the stuff--that was on 2 barrels that i had them make for me. but i did anyhow. ive use JB on all my barrels--new unfired, and about every 200 rounds down the tube. im curious as to why Hart would say to not use it? it does a good job on copper. i use it on my new barrels to get out any machining residue before i shoot it.

I used to use JB and never had any problems with it. Since then I have gone to Remington 40X and like it better simply because it comes in a squirt bottle. Both seem to work very well in cleaning the throats.

A short story about JB might illustrate what Hart is talking about: Back a number of years ago a friend and I built a target Colt 45 automatic target pistol. In accurizing it, we "squeezed" the rails (pressed them inward) of the slide to better fit the frame with no play. After squeezing it, the slide was TIGHT on the frame and barely moved. We slathered (a Southern term for putting a lot on) JB on the frame and put the slide back on. After many, many manual slide movements back and forth, the tightness went away and the action of the slide on the frame was very, very smooth. Obviously, some metal was removed to free up the movement.

They just don't want you to lap the bore any more.
Hart barrels are within 1 /10000 .
If you scrub it too much and go all the way out of the bore you will change the internal size and bell the barrel end . You can use it but be very careful not to over do it, Make sure you also get all of the jb out of the bore.
flush it with carb cleaner and scrub it with a lot of solvent and clean patches.
You should be good then.
I like iosso better and the iosso oil. I think it's a tad finer.

as i said before make sure you get it all out.
