Borden Rifles

I am looking to get a rifle built for 600 yard work and for the Hickory Groundhog Match. I am thinking about a 6br, or a 6.5x47. I am also thinking about having Borden rifles do the build on one of his rimrock actions. How is his work? How is the action. I know of noone that has one to handle.
Thanks,
Joe

Joe, The Borden actions are second to none. I reviewed the Benchrest action here: http://www.precisionshooting.com/psm_2006_12_frame.html

reprint here: http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/2009/08/borden-rifles-rimrock-brl-action-by.html

I have a 6BR built on the Alpine which is Borden's 700 clone, although it's so much better than a 700 that calling it a clone really doesn't do it justice.

I think you'll be very happy with Borden actions and with the work coming out of Jim's shop, now all you have to do is pick a cartridge!

Joe, you can see my action and the whole process of making it into a tubegun here:

Actually, there's a few different tubeguns going together in that article, but you'll see two Borden Alpines.

German, German, German
You could have taken those pictures in a mirror to fool people into thinking, how can I say this and still be as politically correct as I always am, I better not go there.

Francis, I couldn't use the mirror technique because the last time I looked into it, the mirror cracked! Maybe I was looking at it backwards...

Let's face it, only about 12% of the population is built properly, the other 88% will have to suffer with the shame of being 'right',wrong) handed! :D

Just an update on Borden actions, I should be receiving the new Borden Tubegun Special action late next week. It's like an Alpine/Timberline but is full round with no scope base holes or bolt stop since those aren't used in the Tubeguns. I'll write up a short article when it comes in.

Here's the article on the new action: http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/2009/11/equipment-borden-tubegun-special-action.html

Joe, this past spring, I put together a LV (10.5 Lb.) rig using a [chromemoly]Borden RimRock action, a Bartlein barrel, and a Shehane laminated stock - it's simply one of the best shooting rifles I've owned. Though I did not not use the stock pattern you're looking at, as with stuff from Jim Borden, I'd expect anything from Bill Shehane to perform at a high level. Good shootin'! RG

Jim and Joan Borden are first class folks..

I have never had the honor to meet Jim and his wife Joan in person. I have talked with them on the phone several times and they have always taken the time to talk with me and return my calls.

I have followed behind and rebarreled several rifles built by Jim. All have been made with excellent fit and finish.

Jim knows what he is talking about and you will be wise to listen to his advice.

Good Luck with your rifle build.

Another advantage of having Jim Borden do such work is that he keeps the specs and a drawing of the rifle in his records. If you need another barrel fitted, you don't need to send him the action! In this day of shipping cost and hassle (guys in brown or purple or grey/blue: "duh, you can't ship a gun, it isn't legal", etc.) that's a bonus IMO, especially for Kalifornia proletariats.

You can not go wrong with any of Jim Borden's actions. He does top flight work in every thing that he does. Here is a Rimrock action on a 6 PPC. It was an outstanding performer. James Mock

Borden actions are some of the best ..............LOVE my 2 port. I bought an MBR Tracker for the Borden action inletted and it was done crooked. The action holes were drilled left of center and I was informed that it was 100% perfect when shipped. I keep it hanging on my wall as a conversation piece. Got a Deep Creek Tracker from Wheeler and it's a good one for sure.

Rick
