Bolt Lift Kit by Grimstod - Ben Chappell

2001 F 250 with over 200,000 miles, been in the shop 3 times,,#1 ignition coil, #2 complete checkup before moving to Texas, #3 fuel pump, I guess that is alright
for a 17 year old truck.
That's how a truck should last!

A friend was driving his brand spanking new F-250 down the freeway here in Texas and when he took his foot off the gas pedal to exit the freeway, the engine blew itself to bits. Pics were incredible, block blown apart with innards showing, heads blown off. Took 3 months for the dealer to offer to put a new engine in it.

I guess it's true what they say when the fuel/air mixture goes too lean in a diesel engine. Ka-POW!

Can be done with head spacing preserved. However if you want the bolt trued up, that can also be done, it just requires your willingness to modify head spacing.
Thanks for the clarification,
Useful information for those superstitious people ( like me) that just got there rifle tuned.
And dies set up.

Shoot Small y'all

Did that change the headspace?

Does anyone have a measurement of the about of lift decrease?

Or maybe a “by feel” percentage?

I can't put a figure on it but it's chalk to cheese - I like the Savage action but can't begin to think why this simple mod is not a factory standard. The DIY way is to chop about 1/4" off the head of a .38 special case and insert a steel BB in the primer pocket. Here's a similar part I turned and hardened for my F12. The bolt handle then rotates on the single point rather than on the spring guide.

On Grim's website, it looked like he had a contraption to measure the bolt lift. I'm sure he'll chime in.
Depends on a number of things. Smaller firing pins permit a greater reduction to bolt lift. I know my own rifles i cam lift the bolt with a finger.

By " smaller firing pin" do you mean shorter. Can someone send you a firing pin assembly to have those parts properly sized?

You have to send the entire bolt. Comes back sweet! Smaller in circumference, (firing pin). I believe my bolt lift kit was done last night! Send him a PM, he will get right back to you or call you. He also did the bushing work on the same bolt. I am set.

I copied your design Rusty but I use this. I don't sell them and I don't do it for anyone else. Don't know why others are not using these. Smooth.....................
