Bolt gun 6mm ARC 105-110grns bullets and VV powders?

Thanks. Got out with it the other day. Both MDT mags fed fine. Only put 20 rounds through it to get zeroed and test mags but shot out to 540 yards and it dropped where I aimed them. The factory 108 ammo was a little slow at 2670fps but as barrel works in it should get up over 2700fps and that was only one lot I had so I will test the other one next time out. Recoil was very light which was nice.

Well got out today with the N140 and was a little disappointed. With 26grns and the 110 ATip I was only at about 2450fps from my 26” barrel so the VV data is a little off. I am going to work up and see how it does.

The 6mmBR was not developed to be used in an AR, the difference between the two is minimal and inside 500yds I don't see an advantage as most people I know that are shooting the BR are loading and shooting to the near same velocities as I would load a ARC bolt.
Over 2gr more in the 6BR, you are not getting 6BR velocity from 6ARC.

Hey Rob01 what kind of accuracy are you getting with your ARC bolt gun? Your rifle looks great with the fluted barrel and Matrix Pro.

I have a bunch of ARC brass and the dies for my gas gun so I ordered another TL3 and have a barrel on the way for an ARC bolt gun just for fun. Probably will screw it into an ESR or Matrix. Even picked up a 6-36x S3 from EO at the recent demo price since it gets such good reviews. I have N140, CFE 223, and Lever so will give them a try with Berger 108s or 107 SMKs. Probably start with Lever while the weather is still cool.

Hitting a 10" steel at 1000 with a good wind call so plenty accurate for me. ;)

Thanks. I like the Matrix Pro feel. Sounds like you are copying me. LOL I loaded up some more N140 to try out and see if I can get more velocity and if not I will use it elsewhere. I did try CFE223 and think I have the results here but I'd have to look. It was over 2700fps with the 110s. I really wanted a more stable powder for the ARC but looks like it might be a ball powder cartridge.

Anyone loading the 6mm ARC with 105-110 weight bullets for a bolt gun with VV powders? I have some VV N135 on hand but looking like N140 would be a better choice from burn rate chart but VV doesn't list any loads for the 6mm ARC. I am waiting for barrel for my bolt gun so just trying to figure it out before it gets here. Trying to get them in the 2700+ range which looks doable from my 26" barrel in a bolt gun. Any info would be great. Thanks.
105 24" Bolt can't reach 2700 with N140 but getting 2750 with N540

Over 2gr more in the 6BR, you are not getting 6BR velocity from 6ARC.
Seems a funny fact that Hodgdon only lists 3 powders for the 6BR Norma using a 105gr Hornady bullet. With the fasted being one I've never looked at, A4064 and that is at 2753fps at 58600psi. While Hornady with the same bullet lists 7 powders for the 6ARC bolt rifle with the fastest being 2 powders at 2850fps and those being A2520 and LeveRevolution.

Sierra 107gr MK with 29.4 gr of AA 2520 which is approaching max in the Hornady load data for bolt action rifles. With a 26” barrel. (Using their data for their 108 gr bullet.)

I might have to pick up a pound if I can find it locally and see how it works. Thanks.

My 22” Howa Mini shoots the 108 Eldm with 27.5 grs Varget at 2650 ish. More velocity in my experience requires a ball powder and/or a longer barrel.

For a truck gun, handy handling stick it’s a nice little cartridge. Kind of a niche in my opinion. If you want more performance go with a larger case/rifle.

I ve found what I consider the sweet spot with a 95 grain Berger Classic Hunter at 2800 fps and 3/4” groups. For less expensive Varmit shooting 28 grs of H4895 and an 80 gr Sierra Blitz does 2900 fps and shoots in 5/8 - 3/4” groups. My total scope/rifle weight is 5.5 # pounds so happy with overall results.

Good Luck with your rifle and finding what works for you. Fun cartridge to play with for us experimenters !!

Well went out today with some more N140 loads for the 110 ATip. I will say NO ONE should try these as they are well above the 25.5grn max that VV recommends. I shot 27grns at 2575fps, 28 at 2645 and then 29grns at 2720fps. The 29grn I could almost not seat the 110 to my desired OAL and it is longer than factory. So with that N140 will be out of the running. I did load up some CFE223 to try and was getting 2742fps with 30grns and rounds almost touching at 550 yards so I think I will try that out more in the future.

From my understanding of how this works is you can file a request with VV for a caliber, bullet weight, powder and if my memory serves me right the application, e.g. AR 6mm ARC at 52K psi. That request then gets queued up for sometime in the future depending on requests and time. They may get to it and they may not. That was the process I used when I contacted VV with a request for N540 and N140 for a gas gun with 105gr bullet at 52K. You don't get a direct response, but keep checking the VV site to see if they ever get around to providing test data for that combination. Again, I may be wrong but that was my understanding and experience. Of course the more requests for a caliber and powder improve the probability of a response.
We have 6 ARC GAS and BOLD GUN DATA : support@capstonepg.com
BE SURE TO INCLUDE WHICH TYPE OF LOAD DATA YOU NEED/WANT. :)
