Bolt gun 6mm ARC 105-110grns bullets and VV powders?

I have a GrizzlyII bolt gun that I just started playing with. Bought some cheap privi 6.5 grendel brass from Grafs and ran it thru 6mm mandrel and then trimmed for overall length. Then ran it thru the ARC dies to bump back the shoulder a bit so it would chamber. Loaded with some cheap speer 100gr solid point bullets to fireform the brass. Used 28.2gr of H335 just to form and set the brass. OMG this thing stacked them, some groups .20-.25. The H335 worked very well in the bolt gun with S&B small rifle primers. Clean ignition and barrel clean-up was easy, shot 100 rounds to get me some brass to play with until Lapua becomes available if ever.
Before it starts, the only reason I bought the gun because it came with 2 barrels - the ARC in 8TW Krieger and a PPC Bartlein gain twist 13.85-13.75. The gun was smithed by Speedy and I wanted it, the ARC was just a what the heck. But it looks like it will show some real potential with some good brass and premium bullets in the 85-100 gr range. H335 seemed to work well, I may look at 8208 and Benchmark as well as N135.

forgot to add that I had found these later and ordered 20 boxes lol!!!

Good info. Thanks. Nice looking rifle. You chrono it at all? What length barrel?

no, didn't chrono since I was fireforming to set the brass and was loading what was suggested as a somewhat medium load. barrel is 26.5". i was really stunned at how well it shot those crap components. now that I have some brass set to the chamber, i have some 95 smk's and 90 gr bergers to see what it really will shoot like

Anyone loading the 6mm ARC with 105-110 weight bullets for a bolt gun with VV powders? I have some VV N135 on hand but looking like N140 would be a better choice from burn rate chart but VV doesn't list any loads for the 6mm ARC. I am waiting for barrel for my bolt gun so just trying to figure it out before it gets here. Trying to get them in the 2700+ range which looks doable from my 26" barrel in a bolt gun. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Thank you!

Here they are. AGAIN THESE ARE FOR BOLT GUNS ONLY. NOT FOR ARs!

Always begin load development by using the minimum load data and approach maximum load data with extreme caution, as all rifles and reloading techniques differ. CAUTION: If you substitute or change any components (including lot numbers for different powder, brass, bullets, and/or primers), you must restart the load development process by returning to the minimum published load.

I thought, when it was announced, that the ARC was going to get close to the Dasher on an AR platform. I thought that could be good. However, the velocity limitations, are weak in comparison.

If those meet your needs, fine, no issue. But, you could build a Dasher bolt gun and load it down to ARC levels, it will give you similar recoil and down range performance. Then you can play with a bit more juice and watch it shine from your bolt rifle.

I don't want to build a Dasher. I know all about them as I have friends with them. Same for the GT. Was just asking for people's experience with the VV powders in the ARC.

Why build a 6 ARC as a bolt gun? Was meant for an AR15. What as waste.
Ok I have bolt action rifles in 6mm ARC. First build was the CZ 527 & I am really liking this Mini action build for my use. Recently purchased a Howa mini barreled action in 6mm ARC & again I am liking the 6mm ARC chambering.

What chambering would fit one of these mini actions better in your opinion?

I have a 6 ARC bolt gun with a 26" barrel. My go-to load is a 105 Barnes Match using N140. I use 26.8 to 27.2 grains with a CCI 400 primer. Bullet is seated -0.016". Velocities: 26.8 grains = 2692 fps; 26.9 = 2702; 27.2= 2728. I use necked down Starline 6.5 Grendel brass.

Not the fastest, but by far my most consistently accurate load for my rifle. I extrapolated Hornady 108 gas gun data to develop this load. Looks consistent with the data from VV you provided - thanks!

Because it’s fun. Why not? Don’t do it if you don’t want. Lol
Why not? Because there are much better cartridges for a bolt gun that can easily reach your desired velocity window (and more). As pointed out, the only reason the 6 ARC exists was to fit an AR length Mag. No one has heard anything from the military about the ARC in a long, long time. That’s generally an indicator of a lack of interest.

You could try a 6 BR, 6 Dasher, 6 GT, or 6x47 Lapua which are just some that come to mind.

There were flaws in the implementation of the 6 ARC in the AR platform.

To top it all off the Army is investing in a new platform and cartridge which are unproven.

Whatever scratches your itch is good, but you might want to think about these alternatives.

Don't want one? Don't build one. I know all about the others you mentioned. Not new at this. Got friends with all those calibers and they have been using them in matches for years. I wanted to try the ARC. Worst case if I don't like it then I shoot the barrel out running it for practice and change it. Not a life or death decision.

And I don't give a shit about the Army or ARs. ;)
