Bob Pastors Vipers Venom

I have had a number of people ask what coolant/lubricants I used in chambering. For the last 6 years I have used a high pressure flush system using Rustlic 255R.

Bob Pastor has been very gracious to me by taking some wonderful pictures of my gunsmith tooling. Recently I purchased some of his Vipers Venom to use when threading. I have used a number of products in the past ie. Brownells Do Drill, Rigid Black threading oil, etc.

I have used the Vipers Venom threading about 30 barrels and found it to be a good product. My threads have never looked any better.

Two weeks ago I had to chamber a short barrel that I could not use my flush system on. So I decided to try the Vipers Venom. I cut the chamber conventionally at 52 RPMs reaming and cleaning every .025".
I used an air hose to clean the chips. and had the chamber done in 20 minutes. It has a great finish.

Vipers Venom is GREAT stuff, and the cranky, cantankerous Bob Pastor is, well.........in my book, as good and honest of a man, as there has ever been.

Hell, the squirrels even love him.... ;D

It has been just over a month since I began using Bob Pastors Vipers venom. I have cut turned, threaded and chambered, and crowned over 35 barrels. I have been very pleased with my thread results. I am using hss tool bits and all the barrels have been SS. Instead of just squirting the cutting fluid on the thread between passes. I have used a soft tooth brush. I have blown off the tenon and cutting bit between passes. Then applying a light coat of Vipers venom. I keep my right hand on the halfnut leaver. I have mounted an air nozzle to my tool holder that directs a stream of air on to my work piece to remove the smoke caused by the cutting tool heat. This is so I can see what I am threading and where to release the halfnut.

I finally got to use that stuff and other than the smoke screen :) it did a super job on the threads and the chamber on a 22 BR... I guess I'll not be using anything else from now on................
