Blueprinting and accuracy improvement - any proof?

The threads are not oversized but I did run the mandrel-guided tap in them but took off very little. A single point would seem to be better as it won't follow the existing pattern to the same degree as what I used.

How much did you have to take off for the action face for it to to clean up? How do the gaps on either side of the bolt handle, in closed position, look compared to before you started? Have you checked the lugs for evenness and degree of contact with their abutments?

Buy yourself a Remington the most accurate rifle ever built.

Oh boy! Here we go................. ::)

HAHAHA! I hear you on this one :) Maybe once upon a time, like before a company called Cerebus came along and forever changed the way they build rifles. Nothing ever stays the same.

I don't think Remington rifles have gotten worse, but other brands that start with an "S" have just raised the bar soooo much higher.

Have you seen the reviews on the new S----- Edge rifle. This is a $300 hunting rifle, with a scope! that is shooting under 1/2" groups. Check out the reviews found right here on the internet.

I run 200 and 300 yd Egg Shoots and I'm in my 16th year of running them. Years ago, Remington 40X and Remington Varmint series rifles dominated. Then folks bought the S rifle. I haven't seen a Remington win an Egg Shoot in 7 years. There are lots of "Pre Cerebus" rifles brought to the line. We are always told they are amazingly accurate rifles by the owners. They ALWAYS go home with their heads held low. There are some rifle clubs that are holding various competitions around the country that are making special classes for the "S" rifles because no one with a Remington, Winchester, Sako ETC will play anymore!

In fact, at the end of last year, we had a fellow enter the Custom Rifle class with a box stock "S" in 308. He got himself into the shoot off by hitting 15 eggs with 15 rounds. And then we went to 1/2" DumDum lollipops at 200 yards for the Sudden Death Shoot Off.

Here is that part of the meet report:

200 YD Custom

More records were broken. EVERYONE in the first two relays shot perfect scores! Last month we had this happen in one relay, but never in two. Five shooters went 15 for 15 in all three relays and caused a five way “Sudden Death” Shoot Off. We switched from eggs to ½” diameter, Dum Dum lollipops to really give the folks a challenge. Gary Marciel, Jonathan Wong, Chris Ramella, Steve Buck and George Harrison all went to the line for the shoot-off. I figured this would go fast as out of the five, maybe one would actually hit a ½” target. But all five cleared their first shot. Amazing! Back around again and only one shooter missed. I couldn’t believe it. But in the end, Jonathan Wong had hit four of the little devils in a row, but Steve Buck, shooting a box stock factory Savage in 308 hit five in a row to take home the gold! That is some amazing shooting. Congratulations…

I've witnessed with my own eyes a number of "S" rifles shoot multiple 5 shot groups at 100 yards under 1/2". And these are not the $1500 precision varminter series rifles. These are the $400 - $700 rifles. And these were not "lucky" groups, but multiple groups fired on different days. If these folks were using wind flags and knew how to shoot in the wind, the groups would be better.

I witnessed a 6.5-284 "S" rifle shoot a number of groups in the 2s and then shoot a .018" group. We're talking totally factory rifles here.

I don't have an Axe to grind here. Just reporting facts acquired over thousands of rounds and hundreds of rifles over the course of 16 years..........

yes now i have to add my two cents again . The rem 700 when used by the military is hell and gone from a factory gun . they may shoot factory on the fort but not in the field . I've seen real live army smiths and talked to them . They deserve better than factory and they get it .

I have an M24. It mostly differs from a factory gun in the barrel profile, stock, trigger, and the testing/verification. Each one is shot and has to meet certain performance requirements. Otherwise, the barrel blank is the same. The chambering method is the same. The action is the same. They are not 'blueprinted.'

If you want a Rem factory gun with an extra dose of Ellfin' magic given to it, you can order it from the custom shop.

How hard is it to chamber a rifle within 20 millionths to the center of the bore?

Just put the barrel in a vise, Use your Makita with a stop on the reamer. I use the proper die and diestock for the threads.

Butch , i would like to know if ,are you ,that is a hand drill right? And you . dam please send me pictures of your operation. i would like to sell of my machines and get me one of those hand drills . The Rifler

Next one I do I'll get the Brownie and take some pics. It is important that this is posted so we can show extreme accuracy. Some of you are a little young to know about the folding Lufkin rules. It had a brass piece that slid out much like a dial caliper. That is my most accurate way to measure tenon length and headspace.

No i am not that old but i do have one of those hi-tech rules
it is a pretty white one . It use to be a 6 footer i don't
believe there is that much left anymore. Now butch i am handy with hand held tools i never gave that a thought . i can use it in place of my half billionth indicator which i had to send out for repairs . While indicating a chamber i ran over a piece of amoeba crap and tore the stem off of it . You would think after
41 years in the business you would know better.

butch glad i could spread a little joy and laughter your way . with some machine shop wit . i'll let you know what it costs to scrape amoeba crap off a test indicator .
remember butch it is all in fun . The Rifler

I will try to explain this in a way for you to understand. I was quoting a website of a rifle company which claimed 20 millionths of runout (I provided a link). My post was sarcasm - knowing their claims were BS and this is impossible.
