Blue Box 6BR Brass Flash Holes

Jerry, I see where your from, so Harry Jones isn't that far. It starts in April and they will help with what you need to know. Email Bill or give him a call, he probably just bored, with nothing to do ...:o) jim

Tom, That is good on the annealing but the idea of having to waist so many pieces of brass to get a few good ones is sad. The brass has went down hill.......jim

the thread started about flash holes... i have'nt found one that my .062 km uniformer actually "falls" in yet. does my tool actually measure .062, mmmmm best i can measure it's a shade over. i imagine, if i found some brass it "falls" in, i will no doublt segregate it out.

This is as it should be. The Lapua spec on the flash hole is 1.5 millimeter, which is .059055 inches

BTW Tom -- thanks for the info on Dasher forming. I also have a BRDX loading long and shooting (with a light load) has worked well for me. Brass shot best on third firing. This is older brown box stuff.

FWIW our BRDX (with some radical positioning of the stock on the rest), shot 3-round groups in the mid-ones at 100 yards with Lapua Scenar Ls .013 in the lands (that's past 'first touch' measured with Hornady tool). I really like the Whidden Dies. Sizing is fine for the charge I'm running. Reamer was from Manson. Very nice cutter.

just went through 2 new blue boxes because of concerns in this thread...flash holes are as good as they always have been and the neck mike out just fine.

I'm sure not trying to hijack the thread, but I got curious about the 2 boxes of 308 Palma brass I just got. Sure enough, I found 2 that were over the .062 flash hole reamer that I have and probably a dozen that were oval shaped, judging on how the uniformer was cutting. I think this is a production problem that isn't just with the 6BR case. As always, this info is worth what you paid for it,
Lloyd

This is why when you get a 100 good ones, you try to take care of them. First it probably took 125 to get the hundred so i anneal every time and don't let the necks get dented.
Something else i did find was loose primer pockets on NEW cases, now ain't that the pits...... before i fire formed and the don't get tighter..... jim

To all posters, and most of all to Lapua, I hope that you are listening. Posters, if you are buying what used to be the undisputed top of the food chain in brass, know now that you will need to dedicate some extra hours to the brass prep as opposed to the days of old. To Lapua, I go use to the old cardboard box brass that is without equal. The "new blue box" well… not so much. Also, just for clarification I'm only speaking about two calibers here, the 6.5x55 Swede and the 308. Others shooters may have totally different results; these are only mine as well as my shooting partner.

I don't think Lapua wants to hear this or should i say admit to it. The first step in fixing a problem is to admit you have one........ jim

What is the better tool? The KM professional tool or the Sinclair tool for uniforming the flash holes? Looks like the KM works from inside the case as where the Sinclair comes thru the flash hole from the bottom.

Frank

Just got my K&M tool and it works very well. Just went through all my new 6BR and 308 Palma brass.
Used my Hornady knurled aluminum handle for better grip.
