Blew a primer in my new pistol

I am not a pistol guy. Bought an HK 9mm yesterday for protection purposes. Bought 20 rounds of good ammo to keep and 100 rounds of terrible aluminum case ammo for practice. One of the primers blew completely out on the cheap ammo. There were no signs this had happened other than the gun jammed the next round. No apparent damage to the gun. Is this common in pistols? Have never had this happen (thankfully) in a rifle.

I have three different H&K pistols, all P30's, and until I got about 500+ rds through them they would stovepipe on Blazer ammo, 9mm and .40S&W (much more so on 9mm) They would cycle fine on Rem, WW. They now eat the Blazer better but still will occasionally stovepipe on the Blazer 9mm. Just sharing my experience.

HK's are fine pistols. I have one in 45. I have never run anything but brass cased "moderately priced" ammo thru it. Tons of reloads tho, with no issues. Any pistol needs a break in period to smooth out the rough edges. Don't run regular gas thru a Ferarri and expect it to run like a Ferarri should.

NO, not common in anything.

I had quality probs with some rimfire through an Annie and a new Marlin 2000T a few years back. After notifying the mfr, at their request, I sent the bagged, split empties to them. They gave me a chit good for some ammo. They WILL want to know. I had quality shooters as you do......they will want to know.

Should not be normal in any pistol. As mentioned, I would stop shooting that ammo and try to contact the manufacturer to let them know you had some trouble with it.

And from a different side, I would recommend spending a little money and getting a few boxes of whatever ammo you want to carry and shoot a few hundred of them through your new pistol to make sure its reliable. You want to make sure that a self defense gun will cycle the ammo, not be hoping it will if the time ever comes to need it.

Good point. The only reason for this gun is for it to go bang a few times reliably if the worst were to occur. I will shoot it enough to get friendly with it and then have it for an emergency. I would much rather shoot my rifles. I am still trying to get over it's lack of an external safety. I have contacted the dealer who is contacting the ammo maker. I have thrown away the rest.

What do you mean by the above?
If you feel it is unsafe because of this, don't carry it or just sell it. You should be perfectly comfortable with your pistol and in particular if it is for your defense.
