BLc2 and Win 748 Are NOT the same powder

Been trying to locate some Win 748 and a guy at our range told me that BLc2 is the same powder under a Hodgdon label. I know they have done this on some others but are they the same?

I'm not sure if they are actually the same, but they are right next to one another on the chart. In the current state of availability, I'm forced to try some new ideas. Just my .02.

I know there is different load data given for both but was curious if they was the same. Looks like they should interchange in application only and not data. Really looking for something that will work with heavy .223 bullets as well as Alliant PP2000MR that I cant get!... or CFE223

arlaunch, I found the exact same thing, have all three on hand.

NO WAY I would substitute one for the other.

doesn't matter what you call it. H335, W748, BLC-2, etc. are all of basically the same powder.

wow when I look at Hodgden data it does not seem to agree , not even close . When Hodgden has same powders with different labels ie H-110/w296 & HP-38/w-231 . The data is the same for both in most common cartridges or close enough as to make no difference ( only a tenth of a grain or so ) . However that is not even close to being true to the above quoted powders . Now BL-c2 and W748 seem pretty close but throwing H-335 in there really discredits his post and by extension him in general .

They will differ in burning rate slightly, and only because of when they were made, and which can the powder company decides to pur them into, after doing some pressure tests. If anybody would test various lots of other powders, they would find similar differences in burning rate. This is because there is no way to produce exactly the same powder every time, mostly due to variations in atmospheric moisture. The diffferences can be compensated for somewhat by blending different lots, but in reality there isn't all that much difference. If you want to believe that 748 is a very different powder than H335, feel free. But it ain't. The difference is just in various lots of the same powder. They just pour it into different cans.

Well now... another quote from p.5 of that thread. (Bold italics is from me.) Note to OP, if you have any doubts call Hodgdon. They would be original source information... from the horse's mouth so to speak.

I'd like to see Mr. Barsness load a 6 BR case 2/3 the way up the neck with H335 and 748 and seat a 60 grain Sierra HP on top and pull the trigger. I've shot several thousand of those bullets at P-dogs with a case full of 748. He'd find out real quick that those two powders are very definitely not the same.

I too find W748 and H335 to be completely different powders. Besides needing different charge weights to reach similar velocities, H335 produces a considerably larger fireball in short barrels. Similar burn rates or not, H335 clearly differs chemically from W748 by at least having a different (or none) flash retardant. If they actually were the same powder (like H414 and W760) then Hodgdon data would be identical for both. They are not.

I think the OP edited out H335 of the 1st post.

No I did not. Never mentioned H335 ever, my original question was BL-c2 and Win 748. H335 is way up the chart from them two.
Damn this thread derailed in a hurry...
