bipod in bench rest

Well, I am pretty sure it is legal and I have seen it tried also. It would be quite a handicap with group shooting. It won't hurt anything to try it.

I don't know the Rules of all the paper shoots but have been told since it attaches to the gun its illegal. Either way I think it would be awesome to try would ruffle some feathers if the shooter did well.

I just made a quick call to a man that knows the rules. He says it isn't legal in IBS anyway.(the Bipod ) You could always shoot a DQ score just to see how you do if the match director will let you.

I am not a paper competitor just thought it would be cool. I check groups out long sometimes but that's only in hand chosen premium conditions completely different than matches.

I tried it in a 200 yard egg shoot on different years with different rifles and pretty well embarrassed myself. I am generally competitive otherwise.

It was done with a Rempel in local score benchrest here. The guy did pretty well.

I've considered trying it in a varmint match format's factory class. Bone stock factory rifles, no fore arms wider than 2.3" and a 25 lb weight limit...but no rules about he attached bipod. Was thinking that it might be steadier in a nice, heavy Rempel than in a rest. But, I'm short on money, so I'll just cobble together a way to shoot it off my SEB rest.

I wouldn't see a bipod being competitive against a rest. If your rest and bags are right you would return to point of aim. It could also maybe torque and pull shots. It would not be near as smooth as a rest. If it would be legal you would have to count the bipod as weight because you shot it on the gun. Then you would have to build the gun lighter to make weight which would hurt you also. I don't think a bipod could be competitive. Matt

I shot last match with my bipod at Ridgway VBR and plan on it again. it is a blast but VERY different than a good rest bag combo.

Taking on high standard shooters is excellent cross training. You may not win but you WILL be better for it. Good work for a serious shooter.
