Bill H.R. 367 Hearing Protection Act ( Suppressor )

Support Bill H.R. 367 Hearing Protection Act.
H.R.367 will make legal to buy a suppressors over the counter just like a firearm. It will remove the now required $200 stamp and also refund $200 retroactively to anyone who's purchased a suppressor in the last 12 months.
Doesn't hurt to write your Representative to keep moving this forward, this is long overdue.

Agree. And looking fwd to a refund. Weeelll fingers crossed anyways.

Need to amend this bill to place penalties on industries that let employees run around with no hearing protection in environments that require it.

The bill reads "Any person who pays a transfer tax on a silencer after October 22, 2015, may receive a refund of such tax."

Can't wait until it gets to the Senate. It will give Chuck Schumer apoplexy, lol.

I only wish it would do more for that F...in IDIOT! But then anything to do that benefits us "Gun Owners" rights, that clown would oppose simply because he's a flamin bleeding heart liberal who cannot believe Gunowners, for the most part, are responsible in what we do. But glad to see the trend of anti-Gun ownership is taking a major hit and hopefully more will be done to legitimize that which most of us already know is encased in a certain document, called the US Constitution in several sections.

Well, given the cost of a suppressor, I seriously doubt it is going to make a difference in terms of safety for Police Officer working the streets or in an undercover capacity. Also, considering the way things are on the streets nowadays (or even in the past), an idiot who wants to ambush or shoot an Officer is going to try regardless if he has a Supressor on his weapon or not. Been there, done that!

How does law enforcement feel about this? I have concern about the safety of our officers. Any thoughts?

It is the same old argument, crooks never buy their weapons via the legal means. If they did, the existing laws would stop them from ever possessing firearms. No, they either steal them from law abiding citizens or they buy them on the black market. So, if the crooks really wanted a suppressor they would already have them. The stats in the bill show that suppressors are not used in committing crime, and they have not been for many decades. Mainly due to the process and the cost. Now the thing the law abiding citizen needs to make sure is that the suppressor that we do purchase finds room in the same lockup that your firearms are in to prevent the theft.

How does a gun muffler create a danger anymore than a car muffler?
These things can be pretty low tech, if desired.
They apparently can be made from an automotive oil filter.
Crooks don't obey laws.

Or a pillow... it's been done forever.
Most gangstas want small and concealable, adding a suppressor to the end of a pistol doesn't fit their desired use. Same reason a AR isn't used. Too big and long to whip out of a car window quickly.

Now I'm stereotyping here for the sake of affect, however it is also true

The ATF has also published a white paper recommending they eliminate suppressors from the NFA and register them as a regular firearm. As for waiting to get one, I am so glad I didn't do it. It was hard enough to wait 7 months for the one I have now to be "stamped". It's not about quiet, it's about saving your hearing and I don't always have time to put hearing protection on when I want to shoot something.

The ATF also had a 2nd White paper recommending against supressors as well, however, it wasn't made public. This is from an ATF Agent who worked in the NFA section I spoke with last week in Atlanta.
