Beware! USPS shipping

Just a heads up for anyone shipping.
Bought a Bipod from a foum member who shipped usps 2 day. Recieved it week and a half later. Shipped a stock out to a forum member on the 2nd. He still hasn't received it! Checked tracking and it's moving at Glacial speed. I called customer service and got the whole Covid line from them. Lesson learned.
It is a shame but every delay is blamed on CV19. The shippers are using this to cover there azz. Just my two cents. Tommy Mc

I've received 5 items in the last week shipped by USPS. The only thing that was delayed was a scope bought off of this forum, and it was delayed by a total of one day. I've used USPS for years and since they upgraded their tracking system in about 2012, their shipping has worked as well or better than their two major competitors.

USPS has gotten really bad. I sent out a couple of barrels I sold on this site to respectful buyers only to be let down by USPS. I sent them out out of S. Texas where I live. And it seemed that once they arrived at the DFW / Mesquite TX Hub tracking would just literally stop for a couple of days to even more than a week without knowing what was going on, This was even before the Covid chaos. Good thing the barrels made it to there destination, but without no tracking from USPS from that Hub. I also shipped a set of dies with tracking to WV with tracking, but this time they got lost. Supposedly USPS staff put them in the wrong bin, sent them somewhere else. I put a lost claim and the only thing USPS found was the box, but with no contents, seems like someone just ripped them off. About 1 year ago I sold some unprimed brass, and when the buyer received them he was really mad. He told me the brass was literally delivered in a transparent plastic bag with the Lapua blue box smashed and the cardboard box torn up, all inside the plastic bag. I was like WTF. I no longer use USPS to ship.

Bill, I am with you. I have had great results with USPS for over 70 yrs. Our local UPS store, will not even ship a rifle scope. I tell everyone not to ever use them. I use to have good luck with FED EX but they built a big new terminal couple mile from me and now they are terrible. Have lost multiple packages for me. They blame in-house theft. That's an excuse for piss poor lazy management.
Not sure where you live, but in order to crack down on in-house theft they may risk being accused or r__cism or something. I hear calls now to decriminalize "poverty and addiction" which is code for "petty theft, shoplifting, burglary, etc".

Saw a UPS delivery person across the street from me the other day. The Guy had a face mask on, arms full of packages that he dropped off at different locations rather than going back to the truck for each one ( makes sense ), now he was running from house to house as fast as he could without stumbling while looking down to verify the address on the packages. Its my belief that all deliveries are unable to be on time because of the massive on line ordering, I mean where the hell do you get anything besides off of the dam internet ? I know....Walmart.

Just got my package from Bruno's delivered to the house next door. Good thing my neighbor let me check his mailbox. Even thou USPS showed delivered today. 06/20/2020.

That is bad, however the UPS in my area, since the Covid 19 and gun control nuts have really done some homework, will now not ship anything related to guns, other than a scope. Then even refused to ship some bullets ( not loaded ammo) for me yesterday, as they are gun related.
This is really getting out of hand and so stupid. But USPS did take and send them for me, in a flat rate box. Probably for less money than UPS would have charged anyway, with the weight of approx. 1200 bullets in a box.

I once bought a barrel from a small manufacturer. It came via FedEx. The contents was listed as "mower axle". I'm guessing the manufacturer has had similar issues.

Even shipping a firearm to a FFL, why divulge what's in the box to the shipper? As long as there's no loaded ammo, propellant, or primers, it's not hazardous material. None of their damn business what's inside once you answer "No" to all the HazMat questions, and declare a value for any insurance.

PS Last time I shipped a rifle, I removed the stock and bolt from the barreled action, wrapped corrugated cardboard around the action/barrel, wrapped the stock with thin foam packing sheets, and placed the action/barrel "head to toe" alongside the stock in the box. In this way they telescope down inside a much shorter box and don't scream "long gun" to anyone who glances at it.

Got an email update today from USPS that my package, shipped from SE PA to Kodiak, Alaska on 1/4 had arrived at the Miami distribution center this morning, 1/9.
Got a PM from the recipient yesterday. He already received the package on 1/7. Go figure.
Edit: Then again maybe the postal services has invented time travel. :-)

On the other hand, I have a package sitting at a shop in PA waiting since last Tuesday just to be picked up. I have the USPS tracking # but no movement.
I hope they don't use a wagon train to get to Texas

UPDATE:
Finally showed up on the radar. Today is 1/13, some 8 days into this. It is in some distribution center in Illinois.

No wagon train. The Pony Express picks it up at the Texas border!

Take the 10 minutes to fill out a USPS complaint. It won't make any difference, but you will feel better. You will also get a kick out of the federal bureaucracy follow-up covid excuses and apology.
I live in PA and have tracked one package that has been sitting at a post office 18 miles from where I live. It has been there since December 6! I have also been waiting on a Harrell sizer that was shipped on December 14 and USPS just cant seem to make the 250 mile journey. I have to laugh about this schitt because I receive UPS and Fedex shipments on schedule.

I just want to know how USPS knows what packages need the longest delay.
I am used to 1-3 days delay living in a rural area with winter weather, and having very low expectations for on time delivery from Nov. 15-Jan 15. But....

A customer sent me a priority package of bagels on 12/6 with a delivery expectation of 12/11, Got them on 1/4.

I get at least 10 packages a week at work, only one that gets the extensive delay is the perishables.

I shipped a tuner to Memphis Dec 18 and the tracking never updated until it arrived on Jan 8th. I may drive down and pick up the bbl and tuner it’s only 9 hours round trip

I wouldn't hesitate to make the trip and you shouldn't either. The P.O. is so unpredictable these days. I think my days of shipping with them are over.

At least for now I'm using UPS or Fedex.
The big 'advantage' with USPS is the price for heavy things in flat rate boxes. E.g., a medium flat rate box filled with 223 brass is $15.50 + ins through USPS. Through UPS, it's over $55. I'm thinking to wait another week or so before shipping through USPS - thinking that their xmas backlog would be cleared by then.

I've had several packages, both coming and going, make good time over the past week. No delays (that I know of at least). --Jerry

Is that UPS policy, or just your local UPS. My son shoots a lot of ammo so I'm forever buying ammo, or lead/brass/ ect. Never had a problem. Right before Christmas I got a big order with ammo, reloading kit, and supplies. I walked out to get it and the UPS driver noticed my leg brace, so he took it in to the kitchen table for me. No problems here.
