Beware! USPS shipping

It's not just the USPS. FedX did this to me today. Ordered a scope. And here is the latest tracking. Now My town of Rock Springs is right on I80 almost halfway between Laramie and Salt Lake. The truck has to go 1/4 mile past my home down I80.. And to top it off if I send a letter to an intown address it goes to SLC and back.

All shippers are much busier than normal due to covid19 and people ordering online rather than buying in person. It may be the new normal and might be the final nail in the coffin for mom and pop shops.

Combine covid 19, civil unrest in hub areas affecting logistics and an overwhelming package volume..and you have a recipe for problems. Frankly, I'm amazed at how well they all do, at getting it right.

Had a package lost or stolen yesterday... Personally I think it was never delivered because of time.... They said 10:50 am , they have never been here before 2:00pm in 13 years before... I cringe everytime I see UPS as the shipper anymore...

Well said. My address is actually a UPS store. I try to use UPS some out of loyalty but USPS small flat rate box is almost always less expensive. But they are very good to me and I often chat with them. They told me the other day that Covid 19 has been busier than the Christmas season and lasted much longer.

That is bad, however the UPS in my area, since the Covid 19 and gun control nuts have really done some homework, will now not ship anything related to guns, other than a scope. Then even refused to ship some bullets ( not loaded ammo) for me yesterday, as they are gun related.

Clarification: Is this UPS, or a UPS Store (different entities)? UPS Stores are largely independently owned and set their own rules.

UPS policies are pretty flexible. As you say, UPS stores are franchises and apparently franchisees can implement their politics how ever they want. My UPS store manager and employees here in CA know I am a shooter and builder. They recognize barrel shipments going both in and out. The also know the heavy ones are bullets and the large medium size boxes are brass unless marked ORD and then they are powder. The only thing they can's ship out is powder. Often they say "what's this one?" if it doesn't fit any of the above descriptions and I'll tell them.

Yes, USPS priority has been super slow. Had a stock shipped to me that took almost 5 weeks to arrive. Sat in transit stage for over 3 of those weeks between Pittsburgh and ?????. It was shipped from WA to MI, why it went to Pittsburgh, no clue.

Now i have another stock coming to me that is in same boat, shipped from WY on June 3. Arrived Denver on June 5..... thats the last update.

I've been using Fedex ground lately, about the same price and been right on schedule (or within a day or two at most).

This is really getting out of hand and so stupid. But USPS did take and send them for me, in a flat rate box. Probably for less money than UPS would have charged anyway, with the weight of approx. 1200 bullets in a box.

I took a rifle to the local UPS store, bought a box, and packed it right there. Not one bit of trouble. Never said a word about firearms.

Retired USPS after 37 years as a Rural Letter Carrier. IMHO 99% of problems are self inflected! Wrong address or wrong Zip or PP hand writing. Keep in mind that the Post Office goes to every house in every town 6 days a week, your carrier will pick up mail and a rural carrier will even pick up parcels. Try that with UPS or Fedx.

I just traded scope with a shooter in Arizona, I am in NY. So shipped cross country. My package came in 3 days and he got mine in 2 days, both in perfect condition.

Bill, I am with you. I have had great results with USPS for over 70 yrs. Our local UPS store, will not even ship a rifle scope. I tell everyone not to ever use them. I use to have good luck with FED EX but they built a big new terminal couple mile from me and now they are terrible. Have lost multiple packages for me. They blame in-house theft. That's an excuse for piss poor lazy management.

Correct address, correct zip. Legible label.
Tracking label confirmed. Shipped from Colorado to Michigan on June 2nd, arrived yesterday. I looked at the progress. It sat in limbo at several locations. B.S. answer from customer service. Fed Ex from now on.

Has to be a UPS local thing in your state. I just took a stock to a UPS outlet. Bought a box from them and shipped it out. They had no problem shipping it as they asked and saw it was a rifle stock. They asked if it was a complete rifle but once they knew it was only the stock, they shipped it. I'd imagine it's coming eventually where sending only a stock will be banned by USPS and UPS in my home state.

Had to ship two big boxes to MN. from Ca. One went "Flat Rate" Priority Mail and the other had to go Priority Mail because of it's size. Priority Mail cost more than the Flat Rate.
SURPRISE, SURPRISE!! Both got there the same day.
Slow shipping has EVERYTHING to do with more folks buying and shipping during the Virus thing. You better get use to it. ;)

Absolutely all of them seem slow and scatter-brained these days when it comes to finally talking to them about something gone south (lost)

Shipped a small package First Class Priority Mail up to Oregon, Should have only taken three maybe four days at the most? Tracking showed it checked in at my local PO. From there? NOTHING. Must have been too much trouble to squeeze the trigger on the scanner?? (DUH)!!!:mad:
Two weeks later, it finally showed up on tracking, on it's way to Seattle??
Hell, I could have driven up to Oregon and delivered it in person. Lucky the person it went to was pretty easy about the whole thing. Sure as hell wouldn't have done any good to get your shorts in a knot over it.;)

PO okay here. I shipped some AI stock sides Priority and they actually arrived on time. Also, might mention, all my bills are still coming to the mailbox.
Luckily, my Corona $$, like all my retirement income, is direct deposited.

I tried to ship a Daisy 499 single shot BB Gun through a UPS Store. The shape of the box told them it was one of those “nasty guns”. They did not care it was a single shot BB gun.

This is another fine example of the USPS performance. This order was placed on 06/06/20 with Midway. Took quite awhile to put that tiny package on the right truck I suppose. It was (1) Redding bushing and (1) K & M expanding mandrel.
