Best way to convert a 6ppc to 6bra ?

Good day. I would like to build another bench rifle, to shoot I00 to I000 yards and the bra seems to be the flavor of the day. I would like to buy a used bench rifle and re barrel. There are a a few used 6ppcs in our back yard but not many 6brs. Re-baiting the rim sounds the easy est ?
thanks again.

The stocks on short range BR rifles aren't what you want for a 600/1k rifle. There are great rifles here in the classifieds all the time. I'd recomend starting off with the right package. Rebarrel or rechamber. Or if it's already a Dasher or BRX shoot it out learning.

Many 6PPCs are built using actions that have so called "universal" bolt faces, meaning that they work with both PPC and .308 case head diameters. Bob White has the largest inventory of used benchrest rifles and you can ask him about the particulars of any rifle that he has in stock. His business is Shooters Corner http://theshooterscorner.com/. As to stock design, while I generally agree that specialized stocks have advantages, some short range stocks have been used on successful Long range rifles. The winner of this year's IBS 600 yard nationals shot a rifle that has a TMBR stock. If you look at the old "Rifles of the Week" section on this site, I think that you will see other rifles that have done well that have stocks that were designed for short range use. Having said that, if I were building a new rifle that would only be used for 600 and 1,000 I would choose a stock that was designed for that purpose, probably one of the Wheeler/McMillans http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/wheeler-mcmillan-lrb-long-range-benchrest-stock.3931054/

Thanks for the response. I will be shooting this rifle mostly I00 to 400 yds and the occasional long shots. I don't have enough money or time to shoot much so I will never be competitive with most shooters. However I would like to have the rifle to do good at my own back yard clubs. So the 6brai looks good to me. Easy to ff, reload, dial in and low recoil with no downside.? I am 73 years young and recoil is a factor. lol

For what it's worth, the simplest way would probably be to do a straight 6 Grendel. It is essentially a .070 long PPC. So, same bolt face, no fire forming, no custom dies, Etc.
I'm getting the same or more speed as the b r a from a straight 6 Grendel and accuracy is great.

I have bought a few 6PPC. I had the boldface opened to 6BR and barrel rechambered to 6BR. If you can use the stock, it is a cheap way to go. You will have a good action, trigger, and stock. All you would need is a fast twist barrel.
