Best VALUE in a high powered riflescope?

After testing many of the premium scopes, I have a list of the best values. Of course, the type of shooting that one does dictates his choice. I shoot 300 and 600 yard competitions and dollar for dollar, these may be the best values. (I am not saying they are the best scope). Fixed power - Sightron 45x45 ED, Valdada 40X, Nightforce 42X, and March 40X. In the variables, I like the Sightron 10-50X, the Vortex Golden Eagle, the Leupold 7-35X. There is one that's getting a great deal of attention, but I have not been able to get my hands on one ...It is the Delta Optical 5x-50x HD. What do you consider best buys on the market today?

I have the delta and it's nice glass and I like the reticle. For me it's difficult to get lined up behind it. I would like to look through an SV 10-50 to see if it worked better for my eyes.

I was just getting ready to buy a target action last year for my bench rest build when a deal on a used Sightron SIII 10-50X60 came up.
Best investment in scopes i've made to date!

While not "mainstream", the Crimson Trace scopes i've handled have been very nice!
Got one of the last Series 2 off Midway on closeout sale.
Now if i could just get used to how the reticle changes size with the FFP...

Only a comment-
While clear and bright optics are obviously the most important consideration I am almost as interested in repeatable, positive adjustments. That includes parallax. Exposed turrets knobs combined with mushy adjustments is a recipe for a crappy afternoon.
I couldn’t disagree more.
Repeatable adjustments and a scopes ability to always hold zero is wayyyy more important. Most scopes today have decent enough glass to work well into the last shooting light. But many have crappy adjustments and have to be re-zeroed if you look at it wrong. To each his own

I believe the internet is a wonderful tool to use when purchasing a known value or known quality product. But like the bolded phrase above, sometimes it's necessary to actually look through and use a scope before laying out $1,000 or significantly more nowadays for a riflescope.

I found this out when switching handrifles with a friend who used a different scope. Tough duty when you're not seeing the exact same way as your friend. Always try to get your hands on a scope new to you to at least look through it first. Stores (small LGS) will often let you take a peek out the door to satisfy your needs before buying a really expensive scope. Big Box stores, not so much... pay your money and take your chances. A March scope in the 5-50 class will run nearly $3,000 from many suppliers. Choose carefully. Decide on what advantages you will gain from the various models. We don't always need every bell and whistle available.

Enjoy!

Sightron is the way to go.. Tommy Mc

James, as you mentioned, what one considers a great value might depend on the shooting Discipline that one is involved in.

As you know, my primary game is Short Range Group and Score. The single most important feature that is a MUST for those Disciplines is a scopes ability to hold point of impact shot after shot.

This generally holds true for 100 and 200 yards.

At this years Tack Drive, (300 meters), I mounted a Nightforce 15x55 variable that has proven to be a great scope. However, when the sun finally came out Sunday for the final two matches, I could not see my 6mm bullet holes and could barely make out any lines on the target due to the horrendous mirage.

Granted, my eyes are in bad shape, but not that bad.

Bart was using one of the big Valdada variables. I did not get to look through it, but Bart swore he could see well enough to make out the lines and see his bullet holes. This is a $3800 scope.

So for next year, I will have to make a decision as to “value”. Am I going to make the best bullet I can, get the rifle shooting at a competitive level, and drive 19 hours only with the hope the horrible mirage stays at home.

Or bite the bullet, (pun intended), and spend the $3800+ dollars for a scope that I I’ll use at one match, since it is too heavy at 4 pounds to mount and make weight on any other rifle I shoot the rest of the year.

Considering these scopes are good enough to do the job, and they are around $1000, it seemed the old adage about needing to pay 2x the price of your rifle on the scope is a thing of the past

I'v got 2 Vortex GE, 15-60X52.

They have a great reticle for 600 and 1000 yds but, (there's always a BUT) on a hot day or a hot barrel andthing over 40 power is blurred out by mirage.

Now on a cold day say 30 deg they are great at high power.

I have two GE's , and both are MOA reticles since I shoot TR . They may cost a few more dollars than some of the others , but as someone mentioned turret repeatability is not a issue with either of my GE's . When the mirage comes up ? Turn the power down , and use a barrel mirage deflector . They work wonders .
