Pete, I just received a PT&G round receiver with an external bolt release, with a Remington bolt, and the tenon is the same as a Remington, and will accept a Remington style trigger. $369. They call it a 307 Weatherby receiver. Check it out on their website.

“Clone” in this case generally means that it will fit in the same stock, and uses a Rem compatible trigger. In every other way it may be superior.

So not a “clone” but “pattern”, ie: 700 parts fit but not an exact copy of a 700. I was confused because every “pattern” action I have seen is made to fix/do better then an original Remington 700 action and if you were just going to clone it and build in the same problems seems like a waste of effort.

That being said, following, I’d be interested in what is considered a good value in a 700 pattern action as well.

I have a Mack Evo and it is smoother than my Panda F class action was for a lot less $$. Not sure what they cost now, but a bargain when I purchased mine.

The Wetherby 307 I have is very nice. You can snag one at Brownells for $600 with a good coupon code. The other ones I like are the Defiance classic and Stiller Predator but are a bit more money.
