Best value in a 700 Clone

A few months ago I was asking some advise from @butchlambert on sleeving a 223 BF 700 bolt and about the rest of the work that he deemed necessary to do on 700 actions.

Instead of walking me through the process, he highly suggested that I check out the PTG Drakkar SA 223 BF.

I acquired one and could not be happier. 700 footprint, side bolt release, Sako type extractor, fluted bolt, threaded bolt handle and oversized knob provided. All for 539. The Drakker action, kind of looks like a Stiller

Screwed in a 223 barrel originally headspaced to a 700 action. Got extremely lucky, headspace checked out without any adjustment. Rifle even shoots fairly decent for a suppressed Whitetail hunting rifle.

Hand down, no contest on VALUE here for an EXTREMELY DECENT action for the $….better than any Rem 700 factory action I’ve worked with. FULL STOP.

Kauger, Mack, Pure Precision, Alterra, Defiance are all over double this $. Out of the rest just mentioned, pick one, they’re ALL good! Really like Borden and BAT and the GunWerks too, but they do not have a budget offering. Gunwerks had the GRB, but they apparently are no longer selling components.

IMO there’s nothing close to that PTG/307 knockoff for that price right now. No contest whatsoever. The question remains on how long you’ll wait, communication, etc….i have used one so far, and have 6 more on the shelf in all iterations of 223 bf, a sa 308bf, sa mag bf (2), and La mag bf(2). Are they the best out there, heck no. Are they a value/budget action that will work perfectly well? Heck yeah. If you’re interested in an awesome budget barrel that with some machining is as good as the best for cheap, PM me. I’m not sure if I’m done buying them, so won’t post the details.

Ok that price is worth using a Clone for a build

There’s no definitive answer here. Several good ones. Comes down to the things like which cartridge, trigger hanger for some, integral lug/rail, and personal preference.

For example if I’m looking at a br case, I would pick fixed ejector controlled round feed.

I love my Kelbly atlas, origin, evo II.

Several good ones I’ve never seen too probably. About all of them hold consistent headspace if you’re interested in shouldered prefits.

I haven't gotten to try allot of the ones mentioned here but I have had the zermatt orgin actions. They have been great very smooth, easy to find in stock and have turned into very accurate guns at a reasonable cost.

Maybe to have some primary extraction. WH
ya know, i keep hearing about this, but have never experienced this problem with any of my Rems
One in particular ripped the front of the boltface off when trying to extract a stuck case
So I've not had a problem with extractions lol
------------------------------------------------------------
At least I know to look for this in any other 700's I buy
I was going to suggest maybe the quality is just in the older models
Since most of mine a B-Series and earlier
but even a brand new 700 as of a year ago didn't have that problem
